Wow. This was a marvelously written extravaganza of the soul. Your narrative style was superb, very personal, very well developed and polished. It jumped around a bit, but the images of faces in bus windows and students bent on studying, secret letters was haunting. I thought it articulated a story of a young woman trying to find love somewhere in a grey, smoke filled world, a world of distant figures, unnatural attachments and dysfunctional family life. The rantings of the father the pained admonishments of the mother was sharply rendered and powerful. The end is really haunting, open ended and in it we just watch the girl walking away, still clutching her dreams, that are now somewhat tainted. It is such a story of real life, of the struggle to find love in this grey, grim world of ours today. One of the best stories I have ever read on Fanstory. Keep going and going, will you please? estory

I?m so grateful that you like my story. This is a true story of my life and it was the first story I had ever written. Even though I was good at math and physics. It is this life that made me to become a writer that finally is the biggest challenger I could encounter: write in English without knowing the language.

I actually won the second price in the short story category at Paris Writer?s Workshop in 1992. Without a green card then, I could go in a short notice. I did eventually go to the workshop in 2007 and met a Harper Collins UK publisher Patrick Janson Smith. I wrote a story about this experience that is called ?Doors in Paris?. I will promote it so you can review it.

He read some of my short stories and the first 4 pages of the novel but didn?t take my work.
I?m publishing my second book. Then you will take a peek about her life after.
    Thank you so much.

This story is superb. You have a great unique style and its a shame he didn't publish your stories. But its hard to get published today if you are not famous. I believe in these styles that speak of a fragmented multi faceted experience of life, like running through channels on the tv or channel surfing on youtube. All this disconnected, disenchanted imagery. estory

I really love this award winning story about author's first love which turned out to be her mother's former lover. Her love was pure yet not practical. She was on a journey to find him only to find out he was married with a daughter. Disappointed, she decided to move on. The character development was superb. This is an excellent story.

Did you mean your mother's FORMER lover, as in a lover from her past? A "formal" lover doesn't make sense, but maybe it's just me. A 'formal' lover seems like someone who loved your mother's new formal (long) party dress or a lover with very good manners. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for your input. I have corrected it to "former".

Masterful narrative, creative imagery, meticulous detail, well-drawn characters, skillfully rendered dialog--wickedly clever insults--amusing touches of snark--piss on ground and admire yourself--did you make that up? (Regarding your falling in love with him--from what you convey--rather, fail to convey--I can't quite get there.) Cheers. LIZ
