I'm so sorry for your loss, Laurie dear. Losses do have a tendency to saddened the holiday, especially when the person is loved so much. A deep void exsists. Still, we must carry on. I lost my oldest granddaughter and miss here every time our family gathers. Sending you my best today as always,
Sally xoxo

This is a lovely tribute to a fallen hero. Your short poem manages to show your sadness. Your illustration is unique and pairs perfectly. Nicely done.

At the instance of violation of human rights, right to freedom, there is no use of celebration of 4th of July; rather it is sheer loss of time; enjoyed the read; well said, well done; thanks for sharing this; wish you good luck in the contest. ALCREATOR

Exactly. I wanted originally to write this as if to America, but then switched my focus to a fallen firefighter, maybe to couch my anger at my country these days. Thanks for your review, and your insight.
