Nice story. I spent 22 years in the military and had several such instances. Unnerving, yes, but makes you appreciative of your own country.

Thanks for the read.

Ills, this explains so much as to why you are a gifted writer. Your bravery, your sensitivity and your front row seat to happenings on the world stage. So many would have folded and retreated. But you marched on. Your a ancestors would be proud. Thank you for sharing this remarkable story. All the best, Loren

Wow, thank you so much, Loren, to such lovely praise. I hardly know what to say. To say it was poignant to be there would be an understatement. I and the whole crew broke down in tears imagining the horror of it all. We, as the rest of the world, had seen it all on TV. And then I was there!!
Thank you so much again. Kind regards.Ulla:)))

Ulla,

What a life you've lived! And all the amazing things you have seen. It's incredible. I can only imagine. This was a very moving essay and you told it well. Thanks and good luck!

Thanks a lot, Robyn. Yes, I've been lucky to have had a very interesting life and, in many ways, I still do. What not with this virus that we all could all be without. But I have to say that I live in a beautiful area which has made it all a bit more bearable.
It was a stroke of luck, as you know that I was elected for that flight. To say it was poignant is an understatement. I will never forget it. Since then I flew into China many a time during my flying days. Thanks again for a great review. Ulla:)))

That was a horrific time, and it hasn't changed in China, it's still a cruel country. I wouldn't want to go to a place who think nothing at all about murdering all those students. I don't know why we even trade with them. It must have been eerie standing there with all those armed soldiers ready to kill you if you made a move towards them. Great piece of writing here, my friend. Good luck in the contest. :) Sandra xx

Thank you so much, Sandra. It was poignant, and I will never forget it. I actually cried when I wrote it. No, I don't understand why we trade with them, but it all comes down tomoney and cheap labour. Sigh!
    Thanks again. Ulla, xxx

Pretty scary stuff in China it seems. You were fortunate to see all these places, but fear is not fun and you had every right to be fearful. It's so nice of you to share this story! Well written!

You have really lived an interesting life, Ulla. I can imagine how uneasy you must have felt when you visited there. It was a sad, unbelievable event. I wish the entire world could enjoy the freedom we enjoy daily. Well done and good luck. Nancy:)

Thank you so much, Nancy. Yes, that I have. I have been very lucky. I agree with, something like what happened there makes you realise how lucky we are, and make you appreciate it more. A hug. Ulla xx

Hello Ulla. I remember the Tienanmen Square incident. The protestors even made their version of the Statue of Liberty called the "Goddess of Democracy." The one thing I remember the most was a single man standing in front of a tank.

I'm concerned it may happen in Hong Kong soon.

Well documented and written from a personal perspective.

Thanks a lot, Robert. You're right, you just reminded me. The single man standing in front of the tank. That was an amazing stance. I'm afraid you could be right about Hong Kong. All best. Ulla:))

Oh, Ulla dear, I remember your previous article on this. How tragic and chilling this was and to see the aftermath. It's hard to unsee things; these horrid visions seem to stay with us forever. Those poor souls.

Beautifully penned and illustrated in blue.

Sending you my best today as always, and best wishes for the contest,
Sally xoxo

Your story reminds me about the coupe d'etat that happened a few years ago in Turkey. I wanted to go for a trip in Istanbul, thanks God that I stayed put, otherwise who knows...
