This octogram, The Mourning Dove, has the proper formatting and reminds the readers of this wonderful sound that cheers one up and sets a tone for the day. Nice.

We have Mourning Doves at our bird feeder every morning. They clean up off the ground what the little birds leave. I enjoy watching and listening to their mournful
A beautiful poem Nancy.
Blessings

Thank you, Nancy, for reviving this beautiful poem. Since I have only been on here for a short time, your poems are new to me. You did a very good job on this one.

Interesting poem of a mourning dove. I've heard they mate forever and when a mate is gone they mourn. Could this be the cry you are hearing? He does indeed touch the heart?

I love the sound and after my husband died I had a dove come to the olive tree outside my window and sit there and sing to me. It was comforting. Sally Yocum, A FanStory member developed and introduced this form many years ago. I love the form and believe it should certainly rank up there with a triolet or sonnet, and should be kept alive, don't you? Thanks for the comments and stars, Kerry. Nancy:)

Hi Nancy, you wrote this as late as in 2020, and for some reason I never saw it..but I'm glad I did now. It's beautifully written, such a joy to read with great imagery to follow. Thanks so much for sharing. Ulla xxx

This is another new form for me, but you followed well the design for form and wrote a beautiful poem. Your rhythm and rhyme, your imagery, and your message were exceptional.

I loved the melody in this Octagram Nancy and the sorrow as this dove calls for his love. We have doves all over this island and I hear them all the time in the towns where they congregate. A skilful write, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Comment from Michele Harber
You're right, Nancy. While the form is unusual, it is lovely, and you handle it beautifully. Your words are very moving, and truly let me hear the Mourning Dove's call. The combination of the poem's form, and the words you chose, give the poem a bit of an appealing sing-song quality -- very apropos in a poem dealing with a bird's call. Y our poem has a lovely flow and, as always, perfect rhyme.
My only suggested edit (since it wouldn't be me without one) is where you say, "Until He's reached ..." Unless you're deifying the Mourning Dove, the "H" should be lower case. ð???
