The finer frivolities of life, as depicted in your story's accompanying picture, may well be a thing of the past when most of us are financially ruined, and will have to rebuild our lives after this virus is brought under control.
If we expected humor from your story, we got a glimpse of harsh reality. Perhaps there is a hint of rip-off dealings here - can we trust that the consultant hasn't embezzled the money, for instance? Can we think that a greedy person is about to get a sharp lesson by not being able to gain a lot of money? Quite a lot to ponder in your short write.

Your short story is both sobering and scary. Amazing that we can go from the best stock market readings to the worst all over some microscopic little "Bug." Well written. Glad that this is only fiction!

If it were me, that consultant would be doomed. He wouldn't have to worry about the corona virus any more. Corona virus didn't kill the money. Where is it? Yep, he'd be in big trouble. Good luck in the contest.

This well-written little story is a frightening and sobering commentary on the stranglehold that the coronavirus seems to have on society, the economy, daily life, and sometimes -- life itself. The elegant artwork makes an interesting counterpoint to the horror of the story.
What's interesting is that the Covid-19 seems to be almost an afterthought in the story, while it occupies center stage in the media and in many of our lives, as we go through the contortions of dancing around it.

Thank you so much, Mary Kay. Here in Europe a recession is expected because of this. Ulla:)))

You're welcome, Ulla. The economic implications of this pandemic have concerned me from almost Day 1. It's almost as frightening as the virus itself. We really have to have faith in God, stay as positive as we can, and be creative and compassionate in our responses as citizens of the world, to keep our heads above water. We have to come together like never before. I think it will require a lot of rebuilding.

Well, that's terrifying. It's something no one wants to hear. Especially, if it killed off an entire company. This virus is crazy and I'm sure many are feeling defeated from it for many reasons.

Well done, Ulla. This is going to be what will be happening to so many businesses. The virus will destroy many people's livelihood. Many people will lose their jobs, it's such a mess. Your story is spot on! Good luck in the contest, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Thanks a lot, Sandra. You understood exactly what I meant by this little flash. They are already predicting a major recession here in Spain. Our lock down has also been extended to the 25th of April. But fortunately the numbers of deaths and new cases are starting to go down. Stay safe, my friend. Ulla xxx

I think there will be a world recession. Too many businesses are going to be hit by this. Then there is the air flights, who will be going on holiday for a long while, we'll all be out of pocket, including the holiday industry. Bleak times ahead. You stay safe as well, my friend. xx

This eighty-word flash fiction story, Defeated, has the proper word count and listens in on what might well be a real conversation somewhere as businesses shutter and find they cannot go on. The situation you have created here, of course, makes it all seem absurd and a bit amusing.

This was a unique way of looking at the current situation we are in. I'm sure many feel the same terror that these events might happen. The photo was a very interesting choice too.

Hello Ulla. This is an interesting subject for an 80 word flash fiction story. You did a great job in 80 words describing a tragic situation.
As is required in flash fiction, your last words of the story put everything together.

Good luck in the contest.

Robert

Thank you very much, Robert. I'm glad you liked it. Well, we are overwhelmed by what is happening. The result of of all this will lead the world into recession. But then again, the world has been in serious crisis before and bounced back. Ulla:)))

I'm fine and doing well, and I hope you are as well. but it's bad here in Spain. So many deaths and rising every day. It breaks my heart. We have one of the finest health care in the world but they are struggling and dying themselves. (Doctors and nurses) My daughter is a nurse and her husband a doctor. The parents of my three small granddaughters. They live in Denmark.some 3000 miles away. I can't get to them and I'm worried. Yet, I have to stay possitive. We will overcome this. But at a price. I liked how you had the broker in that face mask. Very indicative of the times. And it really shows the economic impact and all the collateral damage that people haven't even begun to think of yet. Governments and companies, especially small businesses and the restaurants and bars that gave the world its local color, bankrupted and wiped away. the world will belong to the big, colorless, common denominator internet companies after this. Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google. that's our world now. A life lived in a box, through a wire. No thanks. estory

Hi estory, you could be right, but I hope not. Some people will have ideas and incentives after all this. But that it is hitting us hard, there is no doubt. Thanks a lot for the review. Ulla:))
