The sad thing is there are people around still willing to pay the price (that the elephants are paying) for the ivory. A lovely Rondel June and written with emotion and passion for these beautiful giants. Well done,
cheers,
valda

Wow -- well-written and powerful, June. I think your use of the 'inction' rhyme seems to increase its impact simply because those words themselves - with their length and hearkening to violence/strength - add to the overall aura you create.. :) Thanx for sharing! ;) Yvette

A very well-written Rondel and a great subject about the African forest elephants who are hunted and slaughter mostly for their ivory that make them rich in money but the animals suffer and became endangered.

Thank you for reading!
Comment from Gloria ....
Excellent social commentary poem. The repeating lines effectively illustrate the vanishing of the African elephant passing through a veil of time.
I have read and few Rondels and your fine poem has inspired me to write one.
Always a pleasure to read and review your work, June. :)

Hi June. This is a wonderfully written Rondel for the Potlatch assignment. I like the artwork, too, which has a haunting quality. Excellent rhyming and theme. So many species are in danger of extinction due to criminals. Marilyn

So very sad for the elephants. Man's greed for ivory. Even the silver-backed gorillas are fading in the mist. Their hands cut off and used for souvenir ashtrays. God's tears must run as he sees his creations slaughtered for greed and fun. Well done friend.

Hello June!
Such a moving and sobering well-crafted poetic offering. I hate to even consider for a moment the possibility of elephants disappearing "through the haze of time." The slaughtering must end...
Thank you for sharing the important and timely poetic offering.
Take Care!

P.S.
Hoping that you are feeling better!

Thank you for raising our awareness about the plight of the African elephant with this rondel. I admired your rhymes and repeats to dramatize the demise. Your artwork selection helps to establish the mood as well. Sighs- Joan

Excellent offering for club challenge! This dear animal has been decimated. Not long ago, I read about a group of women that have taken on the challenge of stopping poachers. They are highly trained African women and have made an impact at least where they are guarding. But one force of guards isn't enough to help all of the elephants sadly. Thank you fir sharing! xoxo
