Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

Sent you a text review on this poem but also can see a hidden message here, and that is; "Let's put Christ back in Christmas!"
So many forget that the reason for the season is to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
No one has left such a legacy and given us more simple principles on how to live a just life following the ten commandments.
Jesus had no property, no wardrobe beyond his simple garments, and no wealth, and yet we now found a successful Christmas on the amount of money spent by consumers.
The "Brightest Light" is indeed the "Right Light," emanating from On High.

This is a very important invitation for the reader. With the unkind climate in which we live, this message is vital. This is well written. Happy holidays, Darren

    The Brightest Light, edited

    Christmas Time has arrived again
closing my eyes, I remember when
We used to go caroling door-to-door-
they would always ask for more!

My father played his gifted guitar
I looked up to see a shining star
My brothers and I sang of truth
    with the exuberance of youth

Singing loudest was Bruce of nine,
    clear young voice sharply defined
Shawn was seven and I had five years
Harmonious lessons; I learned to hear

    Dressed alike in choral attire
made us a crisp, captivating choir
The line of our heads a pleasing slope
vocalizing of cheer, love and hope

To my heart this introduced and instilled
a wondrous desire to shape and fulfill
One of my life's many valued tasks
warmth of spreading cheer, I bask

As we sang with joy on our faces
    reflections of the many graces
Bestowed on all this holiday season,
a gentle reminder of the real reason

That we celebrate the Royal birth-
One that fills our hearts with mirth
Ask, and ye shall surely receive,
if you would but choose to believe

If you are a friendly neighbor,
with others you will find favor-
For we must respect all beliefs
If with them we are to find relief

Give unto all with a cheerful heart
and many blessings, He will impart
    Look, the snowflakes softly falling-
close your eyes, The Spirit calling

Celebrate the birth of The Boy
that came to fill our hearts with joy
He said "I come not to condemn,
but to give abundant life", to them

    Who receive the greatest gift,
that clearly closed and sealed the rift
    Between mankind and eternity,
que sera, sera; what will be, will be

If you are one, heed the calling
and be careful to not be falling
For one of lifes many deceptions,
    so many contradictory misconceptions

    Be simple, with old-school integrity,
    and with your environment, be
    Harmonious, helpful and kind
and we will be of a similar mind

Be truly grateful for this time,
as you read my restorative rhyme-
Do that which is noble, just and right
    so that all may embrace
    The Brightest Light

I like this stanza "If you are a friendly neighbor,
with others you will find favor-
For we must respect all beliefs
If with them we are to find relief"

It seems to be the crux of the message.
reply by the author on 23-Dec-2019
Thanks so much I appreciate your input on my edit. What exactly is a Crux? That's the only time I remember hearing it is on a Frank Zappa album apostrophe the man that was talking to the dog when a dog shed it should be easy to see that's the Crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe. Thanks so much and a happy holiday to you and yours! Blessings, brother by Drew Cole, AKA Darren
reply by Liz O'Neill on 23-Dec-2019
Crux is the main point, the substance of, where everything comes together.

Amen! May all embrace the Brightest Light of Christ! I loved that you reminded us of His words: "He said "I come not to condemn, but to give abundant life."

I hope you'll move this poem into the Christmas Poem contest as you placed it in the Free Verse one and since it rhymes and is clearly structured, it could be disqualified in that one.

Que Sera', what will be will be (really should be que sera sera - if you wanted to have that second "will be" meaning and no apostrophe.

You are a treasure here how do I switch it from free verse to Christmas poetry?
reply by lyenochka on 19-Dec-2019
    Hi Darren!
The best way would be to send a note to Tom and have him link it to the right contest. The other way that I can think of is to copy and paste into the Christmas contest and submit but you'd need to change the title. Then you could use the Free Verse one for one of your great free verse poems. Hope you get it into the right one!
    Blessings on your Christmas celebrations!

You convey a warm and cheerful sentiment. During this season--and all year--we should share joy and contentment, be loving and tolerant of others. Most of all we should do as you say in your final two
May all embrace

Well said and I sure remember those days of caroling - and of sing-a-longs around the piano - and even now my bro/law would pull a big trailer with his tractor and we'd all climb aboard and sing carols around the neighborhood. A time of joy.

These are happy memories of singing carols. I have fond memories of my Mother who loved to sing and we would all sing carols together at Christmas, it was such a joyous time back then when I was about 8 years old, you brought those memories back to me with your reminiscing here, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
