Hi Ulla,
This is a delightful story full of exotic surprises. I love Kay already even if I have never met her. We always had geckos on the farm and were never afraid of them. But living in the city here the geckos are different. They are smaller, paler, and I have come to this country from Asia, via containers probably. Unlike your geckos, they eat less insects and multiply prolifically. Our house is always full of gecko poo when we come to get it sprayed for insects! Hopefully I will get onto your story today. Hugs, Giddy

Thanks so much, Giddy. Kay is a person I will never forget. She was a character and she will live with me forever. Every time I see a wee George I always think of her. Big hugs back to you. xxx

Hello Ulla,
What a marvelous story about a wonderful woman
who loves and protects turtles, parrots and geckos.
We watched a movie a while back about a similar woman
who protects the turtle eggs from poachers. Seeing the young ones
dig out from the sand and head to the water is a marvelous sight.
You have some wonderful description of Kay and all her friends.
This is a story that should be read in schools;
George might become the best known name on the planet
Well done, my friend
Robert

Robert, this might just be the best review I've ever received. Thank you so very much. Not only for the wonderful recognition but more so for the lovely words. She was a remarkable woman, indeed. I wish your words could become true. She deserves it.
I don't know whether Pam has said, but I just ordered your book and it will arrive later this month. Thank you so much again. Kind regards. Ulla:))

A very enjoyable and very sweet story for Robyn, Kay and the geckos - you would love our insurance commercial - he is a talking gecko for Geico Insurance. LOL Maybe when you've visited, you've seen it? I loved all types of lizards as a child. I spent many hours in the desert finding them and discovering things about them with my dad when I was young.

Currently, in GA, we have these beautiful bright blue-tailed lizards called Skinks. Because of your writing you have finally alerted me to the name that I had to look up - and I had been seeing them readily. I didn't know much about them. I found out that they are called the scorpion lizard and are not venomous per se but are bad tasting to predators which was another thing I already knew (not poisonous or venomous), but I had to confirm as I saw the word scorpion and I immediately jumped to a conclusion before getting all the facts. Which luckily it keeps the Yorky in our household away from eating them because they are foul-tasting! And not poisonous, but either way both bad! I am glad I didn't try to catch it! I was saying Hi to it in the yard one day and had a plan to try to get one - now - not so much LOL! Thanks for the reminder in your story and the share! Cheers, Fonda

Thank you so much, Fonda and for your lovely review. Geckos are a common and welcome sight here as they are harmless to all bar the insects. Kay was a remarkable woman, who I will never forget. Thanks so much again and for the lovely stars. Cheers, Ulla xx

You meet the most interesting people. We have tons of geckos here in Florida too. When we had been here just a short time, I noticed a silk plant in our living room moving. I thought I was imagining it but it kept happening so I got up and looked and sitting among the fake branches was a little gecko. I took the plant outside and shook it, and the gecko fell out. The next day I 'm in the living room and the plant is moving again. I look inside and there is the little gecko back. =} I hate for them to be in the house because the A/C dries them up and they die. ={ But they love to be in the house. This is a cute story. I do wonder why it is for Robyn. Rox

Awe, Roxanna, thank you so much. Yes, I've been so lucky to meet so many interesting people in my lifetime. I just came across a big gecko today and I immediately said: 'Hello George'. Ulla:)))

How sweet and Robin will be touched by your story dedication. Kay's description was stellar, 'her dark hair piled on top of her head.' I wear my opal color hair piled high in a giant clip. :]
Great writing and reminiscent of The Fisherman's Son.
Sending you my best today as always.

-A very nice image, Ulla.
-I enjoyed this story.
-You tell it so well, it
flows across the page.
-The description is vivid,
and creates a good word picture
of the surroundings.
-But, more importantly you show
how important Kay became in your
life, and what she stood for.
-I have heard and read about turtles
needing to be saved, and volunteers
helping with the young hatchlings.
-Learning about George, the gecko,
was interesting, too.
-Thanks for sharing the story.

What I liked about this was how you described the island and the personality of Kay, and how both the place and the person came to life for us. It all seems very colorful, sublime, and we get a sense of the no nonsense character of Kay as she chases turtle egg thieves with a shotgun in her lap on the porch, with those blue parrots flying around. As the for the geckos; I have plenty under the porch here in NC; I don't worry about them too much because they do eat insects and there are black snakes to keep them in check. It only bothers me when they get in the house, as they have done by hanging onto the porch door a couple of times when I didn't notice. Then you've got some chase on your hands...estory

I know next to nothing about Gecko's, Ulla, except I believe they are in the lizard family. Right? Do they have a bad reputation? Maybe you should include that in your notes. We have hornet toads here at our elevation of desert landscape. Interesting story that I enjoyed. Thanks for sharing. Nancy:)

Thanks a lot, Nancy. Yes I will make sure to add that to my notes. Geckos only thrive in the sub-tropics and tropics. never thought about it. All best. Ulla xx
