Dear Beck, Good 5-7-5, a woman hearing about the death of her son. In these days, I can imagine a lot of parents and grandparents and other caregivers send their children to school, hoping they'll come back safe and sound. A lot said in this little poem. Thank you for your card. Dovemarie

Hi, Beck,
Last week, I watched two documentaries on school shootings at the elementary level. One took place in England, and one was here - the Sandy Hook shooting.
I had a hard time sending my kids to high school after Columbine and now I fear for my grandbabies - this world is a scary place,

I just can not begin to think about the dangers our children face every day. When I heard about the little girl and her twin brothers being killed I just cried. No parents heart should be crushed by something like that.
Thanks for the read and review.

That has to be worst news a mother could ever receive. It is awful. You certainly portrayed the sadness in those few words. A 5-7-5 poem with so much emotion in it. It really touched my heart. Well done, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

Thank you so much, Sandra. I can't even imagine the feelings of losing a school-age child. My daughter was an adult when she died and that hurt is still there as a part of me. But, oh, if she were just a kid!

I'm so sorry, Beck, it doesn't matter what age she was, she was still your baby girl and it's going to hurt you till you're together again. Life can be so cruel at times. Big hugs, my friend. xxx

Thank you for everything. (HUG)

oh, Beck, what a heart-wrenching 5-7-5 you have penned here -- you don't even need a pic with the combination of your title and your words. Very well done, ma'am! :) Thanx for sharing that piece of your heart with us! :)

Thank you very much. It breaks my heart to hear of the 5 children killed at the school bus stops this week.

Loss of child is equally grievous to a mother, especially when the news of death comes abruptly and when the death is unnatural; well said, well done. Write More Inspire More -- DR ALCREATOR

I like your metaphor. It certainly gives a sense of how deep her sorrow and grieving is. There is a poignant use of juxtaposition here too. Also using personification intensifies the mood. This clearly becomes a universal poem. Readers may reflect on such tragic losses they have undergone or know personally of someone who has. May they heed your and cautionary tale. Very well expressed.

Thank you very much, Liz. I hate the thought of parents grieving the loss of their children this week.

A great 5-7-5 example. I like the seemingly so innocent and ordinary a title of this poem: 'They went to school today', as its understatement is so diametrically opposed to the abject horror associated with the relentless gun violence perpetrated again and again in US schools, and the total paralysis in US politics to deal wholeheartedly with this horrendous epidemic. I also like the juxtaposition of something small with something huge: 'Tiny little drops, carving canyons down her face'. And beyond a mother's immediate distress and sorrow, the indelible scars carried for the rest of her life at losing a son: 'Marks of her grieving'. This is a timely message given that there appears to be no let up in school massacres, and until all US politicians on both sides of the political divide are made to feel the pain (read: have their NRA political funding cut off ), these inhuman atrocities will continue unabated. It is a damning indictment of the state of a nation, a nation that purports to be a beacon to the world. Great writing Beck :) Powerful stuff. Best wishes.

Thank you very much, Miranda. I'm overwhelmed by the deaths of children this week in America being killed at school bus stops.
