Yes, there is a very good, but a sad backstory to this. Although I've never eaten cracker Jacks, but I'm sure they're really yummy, I remember the cereal boxes and the secret prizes on could win a beautifully written entry in this contest, well done, good luck, blessings. Roy

Thank you for the read and review, Roy ? this was a ?fantasy write? with a message, but the 75 word limit made it a challenge. I have known many students and parents who use the cinema as a 'babysitter' on days when the school system has a holiday but the parent has to work....sigh. :) :) Again, thanx for stopping by and have a wonderful week of finding hidden prizes where you never thought you would!! That's so true. When I was a by, stop at home mum's were normal, matinees on Saturdays were the norm back then.

What a lovely story. I remember Cracker Jacks. I used to love them. And the prize inside was such a treat for any child, and sometimes, adult. I love the line above the title and the title itself. It leads us to the conclusion but, doesn't give it away. You wrote a whole story in 75 words, and it didn't need an extra word. I love the fantasy of the flash fiction, with a little sci-fi built right in. Mom lost her little girl, "And Claire still waits today." What a wonderful ending to a fun and interesting story. Thanks for the memories.
Take care, Jesse

So glad you enjoyed this, Jesse ? it was my ?fantasy write? with a message, but the 75 word limit made it a challenge. I have known many students and parents who use the cinema as a 'babysitter' on days when the school system has a holiday but the parent has to work....sigh. :) :) Thank you, as always, for your thoughtful review and have a wonderful week of finding hidden prizes where you never thought you would!! :) :) Yvette

Hi Yvette
Yes, hidden prizes are the best kind to find. I hope your week goes as well, as well!

rectangle that read(:)
(And) Claire still waits today. Poor, Claire... It could have had a happier ending, YM...hehe. Excellent writing. Nothing not to like. The content was strong and whimsical (I love Cracker Jacks). I'm sure many will meander down memory lane while reading this 76 word feast. Lovely job and excellent writing, again. Good luck in the contest.
PS: You could remove the 'And' above to make it fit 75 words :)

Thanx for stopping in, Janelle - always appreciate your time, ma'am! :) ;) I actually added a word cuz it was only 74. I just clicked over and recopied it into MS Word on a blank, new page and it registers as 75 words.....which word counter/program are you using? Let me know....Thank you so much for having my back...Take care! :)

Grammarly, dear. I tried it twice. Hmm...if yours says 75, run with it :)
-
I bet I know why...the hyphen probably counted in grammarly as one word. it's correct. :)

whew! I always get worried on those exact word count ones!! :) :) Thank you again -- I do so very much appreciate the second pair of eyes!! :) ;) Yvette

Yeah, I remembered it did that to me when I added squiggly lines, so I went to word and you were right, 75! :)

Interesting poem. Hannah sure did win a prize out of the Cracker Jacks box. I read that the hand came out of the darkness to welcome her. Good job! Good luck in the contest!

This flash fiction speaks how sometimes adventure turns more than adventure in reality as it happens with Clair about prize of a lifetime begins with waiting; well said, well done. Keep Writing -- DR ALCREATOR
