Well I really do like poems about gadgets and this here looks like a fantastic tool.

What a neat word too, and you bet there's a lot of engineering that goes into highway building.

Much enjoyed this poem and new word, and many thanks for sharing.

Gloria

Thanks very much, Gloria. I had to look up the word for that tool. Turns out the official term is not "glorified sextant".

Craig, This is a very well written poem giving us information on the GPS system and how it works to help us get to the right places as we drive. You used very good words and a very new word to me! Blessings, Teri

That's so true. I don't know if would use "stradametrical" in any sentence soon but I do know I could not do the job of civil engineers and those who decide how long to allow one lane to turn left on a multi-lane intersection which has crosswalks where a blind person could be walking with a dog etc.

I intend to drop it right into the conversation at the very next cocktail party I attend, Helen (translation: never). Many thanks, Craig

Hi Craig, this is a very skillful use of iambic meter with the large multisyllabic words worked in well. I liked the use of the word of the day as well. Very nicely penned. I learned two new words for the price of one poem, so thanks for that:)

Thanks for the lovely comments, Pam. Yes, my vocabulary is growing in leaps and bounds thanks to this project -- or would be, if I didn't have a mind like a sieve :) Most grateful, Craig

How times have changed in technology, Craid. My husband used to go out on job sites and "shoot the grade" with a sextant on a tripod. He was excellent at math and very precise in his work. Things are a lot easier these days. I particularly liked this update on surveying tools. Good job. Marilyn

Thanks very much, Marilyn. I imagine it would be quite fun work, although like all outdoor jobs, that would depend on the weather somewhat. Cheers, Craig

A very well-written informative poem. I always wonder how and what they look at when I see them along the road with the theodolite. I never thought it is necessary to survey all angles of the road.

Thanks very much, Sandra. Exactly what they do and how is a bit of a mystery to me, but angles and distances come into play. Cheers, Craig

Hi Craig. You had me guessing which word is a new word. Theolodite it yours. Theolodite sounds religious. My husband refuses to use GPS. He used to never get lost. Now, he gets lost all of the time and still refuses to use GPS. There is a joke that goes "Why did Moses spend forty years wandering around in the desert?" Answer "he's a man. Do you think he would ask for directions?" Good job. Thank you for sharing

Haha, either that, or his wife was reading the map for him, Pam ;-) Many thanks for the fun review.

Hi Craig,

You've taught me two new words today. I often see surveyors out and about with their surveying equipment and never really think about what their work equipment is called. Now I know ... that gizmo's called a 'theodolite'.

This is a cute poem. Yes, travelling can be bad news even at the best of times, let alone if we don't have highway survey crews doing their jobs helping to make our roads safer for us.

Well done, Craig!

Cheers,
Connie

Thanks once again, Connie. I didn't know what it was called either (I thought it was a sextant, but that's apparently the older version). Most grateful, Craig
