Hi Craig. Trying to catch up with my reviews I think this is the third or fourth one of yours I am reviewing. I do not see the difference between NASA and CIA. Central Intelligence Agency. Ah got it now. Thank you for sharing

Hope you're all caught up, Pam. It creates a sinking feeling (at least on my part) when I see them mounting up, and don't seem to be making headway. Cheers, Craig

Wholy crow, who knew this?! Fascinating even though I'm still trying to discern the difference between real acronyms and initialisms. Kidding. Doesn't everyone say I'm going to visit the N.A.S.A.?

Excellent work Craig and a lot more complicated than one might think. :)

Hi, Craig,

After spending way too much time either in the Navy/Army, or working for them as a Civilian, I know way too many acronyms that are backronyms. I could tell you some, but then I'd have to kill you. sorry

I'm not scared by your threats, Patty. I'm not the sort to give in to TLAs that are just designed to spread FUD :)

Thanks for the fun review - Craig

Hah! I love it! :) :) :) I worked for the DoD (grin!) for some time and there are some meetings that could have aptly been labeled alphabet soup! :) :) And, of course, being a programmer, it was doubled or tripled on a regular basis!

Thank you for the memories and the smiles this morning and good luck with your book!

Haha, a kindred spirit - well, I'm not familiar with the military, but I'm well up in BIOS, RAM, CPU's and such like :) Cheers, Craig

Oh wow! I'm thankful for your author notes explaining and giving examples. I'm a numpty when it comes to all these words like acronym, adverbs, pronouns, and all that stuff. I know what a noun and verb are. Yay me lol! Good word for today, and I love your acrostic.

Joy xx

Thanks very much for the fun review, Joy. I've forgotten more than I know about the formal parts and rules of English, but I get by. And you don't appear to have too much trouble, either :) Cheers, Craig

I guess that there wasn't much choice but to express this one in the form of an acronym poem! An interesting subdivision of acronymic forms. Backronyms like SPECTRE where the root word also holds something of the meaning of the acronym are especially effective.

It seemed the natural form to go with, although I also embedded the word, so I guess it was optional - or maybe an each-way bet. Many thanks, Tony.

A very well-written acrostic poem explain the word backronym and its meaning. It is the opposite of an acronym. We make up words from first letters of a phrase of words to make it easier to pronounce as well.

Hello again
This one is your best to date, for me.
I mean, if you are going to do it, do it in such a manner that you engage the reader on as many levels as possible: and with this one I think you have done so.
The notes alone are engaging!

My own contribution to your on-going education is ISO which is used by the International Organisation for Standardization - which would be IOS but only of course IF it was meant to be an acronym, which it is not: they use ISO in block capitals but in reference "isos" a Greek word (as expressed in the western alphabet and in lower case and with an extra 's') meaning "equal".
...and real people get PAID to think up, think through and then subject us to this type of stuff! Nice work if you can get it I am sure.
Cheers
I wish you well in your endeavours with these: this one is, as I say, a stand out.

cheers

phill

Thanks so much for the delightful rating, and also for the extremely kind comments. Thanks, too, for the info concerning ISO. I did not know of the Greek origin, but it makes good sense, as standards help to ensure a consistent, or equal approach. Much appreciation - Craig

CD,

What a fun and uniquely humorous poem! I enjoyed the whole thing. Thankfully, I always read the Author's Notes first, so I had a great understanding of the backstory behind this one before I started reading, which helped my enjoyment a lot. I actually laughed out loud at your final lines. *smile*

Such fun! Thanks!

KGB is Russian = Komitet gosudarstvennoy bezopastnosti (committee of state security). As for the backronym, I also write about this last year: https://www.fanstory.com/displaystory.jsp?hd=1&id=857737&userid=781545&tf=0

With two of us doing word posts, I was wondering when we would cover the same word! Fun acrostic poem for the word.

ahha! I was going to put a little anecdote about SOS in my notes - I'm glad now I didn't!

    Thanks for the great review.
