Hey, Craig,
Nice play on words through this limerick poem, witty with a side theme of a word of the day, the hook and crook;
I like how the names are intertwined... as you could consider the hook part the type of way a preacher thieves... and the crook part more literal to how a pirate thieves. The names of the opposite, but they are all intertwined and better described with hook feeling pirate-like, and crook having nice alliteration with Cardinal...
The more I think about the total harmony and play with how hook and crook is presented through this poem, the more I really like and appreciate the way they play off of each other. Really nice job with this.

A very well-written poem about the Crooks in the world, it is not only piratesat sea that try to boot-hale from others to fill their own pockets at the cost of their victims.

Yes. When you read history and look at the churches of today, there has been a great deal of plunder and pillage. The Catholic church wouldn't or didn't have the amassed wealth by any legal and above-board means. (They lost most of their wealth to the class-action lawsuits by sexually abused people.)
I liked the artwork. Where on earth did you find a picture of a cardinal with a pirate hat?

Hello, this is great and so suitable for your target audience of children. They all go through the private stage. My nephews are hooked on Star Wars and dinosaurs, LOL
Having said that, it works for adults too, who hasn't met an emotionally crippled adult that 'Each day they set sail
to preach and boot-hale--
lay up (point scorers)treasures, by Hook or by Crook. (See them all the time, they're dull)
That makes this a very clever write for me and if I had a sixer, it would be yours and you'd be taking a bow. Cheers, Ana.

No specific person, Pam - although there are any number of Cardinals who might fit the bill. They don't get to be working for the richest organisation on the face of the planet by accident :)
Boot used to mean profit or advantage - hence "booty", and hale means to haul. So I guess it loosely translates to hauling away the profits of ill-gotten gain.
