'Howie and Bernie' tales are so much fun to write. The boys really are vying for my attention this morning. I finally had to let Bernie up on my lap while I type,

I didn't know Howie and Bernie were brothers, but there is sibling rivalry between them. And I think in this case, Bernie won. Dove

Dear patty, your stories on Howie and Bernie are so cute. The come from the dogs' point of view e.g. "there was a knock on the door, not the window. Didn't she know that ?" I didn't know Howie and Bernie were brothers, but there is sibling rivalry between them. And I think in this case, Bernie won. Dove

Howie and Bernie are half-brothers. Their sire was a purebred Maltese, and Howie's mother was a Pekingnese, while Bernie's mother was a Yorkshire Terrier.

You know, this is a lovely little scene of the relationship between dog and owner, and dog and fellow dog. I felt myself wanting to reach across and stroke Bernie when Mistress paid Howie attention.
You've got a knack of painting a picture with your words. I could really see the dogs, the mistress looking out of the window, the den, etc. Maybe just watch your use of passive voice, there's a bit of a repetition of 'was' throughout.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, it put a smile on my face.

Thank you so much for your positive review. I appreciate you pointing out my 'passive voice' content. I went back and did some editing and reworded several sentences.
I'm glad you were able to 'see' the boys as they wrestled for the Mistress's attention,
