I live in the northern most part of Minnesota. About ten miles from me, was an excavation of a campsite that had been used by the indigenous people of that area. It dated back ten thousand years. For about nine thousand five hundred years our country as a whole, was pristine. Then the white man came and changed all that, in less than five hundred years. I won't forget that campsite, ever. This was a very good read.

Wow Victor how amazing. It is one of those moments we are able to be a part of an excavation. Amazing! I imagine an experience like that is a bit of a spiritual experience. The truth of our European ancestors is that they were cold blood uncivilized, killers people. How else could the 500 years, drop in the bucket, of time make any other sense. Thanks again for your thoughtful review. yours, diana

You have written an extremely interesting and atmospberic poem. I really enjoyed reading it.
My dreams are very mundane in comparison. Well done. Bezt wishes Jen.

A very well-written poem and tribute to Native American Tribes who are so full of wisdom and always seemto have peace with themselves and everyone around them.

Yes. Sometimes I daydream about the people who used to inhabit the land and who still claim it. In your poem the narrator travels back in time to witness a "fortuitous scene" of a Navajo feast. Each stanza is a fly-on-the-wall observations of a person hidden in the reeds:
Noble fire surrounds the dancers
moving in rhythmic abandon
while warriors began their sacred feast
When I walk the earth, I feel the presense of the people who came before whereas cars, traffic, and honking horns obliterate picking up the psychic signals of the first inhabitants.
Your poem made me hungry to want to know what contemporary Native American poets are writing about their present and future. Although it is not your intention, your poem implies that Native Americans do not exist in the present. They do, even in cities. If not for a pow wow or a protest, Native Americans appear to be invisible to others, to belong wholly to the past.
I found two spags in your notes: 1600¢??s, and 1500¢??s.
Thank you for sharing your free verse poem and the information on the Goddess Hastseoltois. I appreciate it.

Your review is so thorough and I learned more about my poem that wasn't obvious to me when I wrote it. Two places could have implied the end of the lineage for the indigenous people coming to an end. Fortuitous and fire would soon die. I was just having that conversation with my brother yesterday. We discussed the tribes (in detail by name) Native American people in North America today. Your point about psychic signals hit me in the face! Also, I never thought about Native American poets and I will explore that. Thanks for the boot in the butt. Great Review!

I wanted you to know... I would have nominated you as reviewer of the month, all of mine we already handed out. Just know it was a joy for me to read. yours, diana

You're welcome. I'm hungry to read Native American poets.

Me as well.

What a great phrase: "on a terminally crowded street" and the idea of escaping to somewhere not just better, but somewhere with deep meaning is so inviting. Thanks for the notes -- I enjoy learning the story or inspiration behind a poem.

Hey mv, terminal crowded LA streets took me away to another place in time. Arizona by a stream and night's coolness washing over me. Whoops got carried away there. I'm very, very grateful for the stellar review. yours, diana

Excellent picture for a excellently well written poem. The reader was interested from the beginning until the end. The poem is filled with both imagery and emotions. What a dream

Exemplary work. I love the artwork by Highfive. It adds much to the presentation. I love the title, as I love the whole piece. I love how you get caught up in a dreamlike sequence which tells the history of the Navajo Indians as they prepare for their hunt. The words are chosen well to represent the Native Americans as a whole. I love the ending where a honk awakes you from this dream, and I love the last line which says, "But my dream will always stay." Yes, it will stay in those of us who appreciate the magnificence of those native to this land. The Author's notes are interesting and full of facts which I was not aware of. Thank you for informing me of the culture of the Navajo people. I can tell you put a lot of effort into making this presentation special and I applaud the result of your hard work. Thank you for sharing.
Take care, Jesse

Hey again Jesse James (again your name made me giggle). This was an especially fun one to write. I have no idea where this one came from. Once it started unfolding I fell in love (not with my writing) the vision running through my mind. Thanks so much for your stellar plus one review again. yours, diana

I assumed that you researched about the Navajo Indians. Were you already aware of this? I am glad you had fun with writing it. I almost always enjoy writing my poetry. You deserved the sixer, either way, Diana.
