I'm out of 6's but this deserves one. It is so well written and gives such a vivid picture of your life. I am so sorry you had to live this way for so long. But it gives an insight to those of us on the outside, an better understanding of the hows and whys. I have this in my family as well. None of my sibling, thank the Lord but cousins and I told you of my nieces. I am so glad you decided on recovery. You are no doubt an inspiration to others suffering from this terrible addiction. Really good writing and the poems as well.

The descent into alcoholism and the eventual rise out and up into recovery is well written here. You have some great lines:
twenty-two-year hostage situation otherwise referred to as a marriage.
half gallon of Pink Chablis, our guaranteed stress reliever
.here it comes the big but; the one-syllable word for justification.
I think your story introduces Gerri abruptly. The flashback is sudden and I felt I had missed something. It may just be me, but you might think about mentioning her name in the beginning.
Good story told from the heart.

This is an amazing, story, Dallas, and your honesty is admirably. Very well written where you address the pitfalls of drinking too much. Well I like my wine with my meals, not breakfast, mind you, but then again I live in a Latin country. I'm glad you managed to overcome the abuse. Great writing. All the best. Ulla:)))

This speaks fairly, freely and finely, all about drinking, as if destined, since began in womb, more than passion or dancing, continued as usual after divorce, recovery suggested; well said, well done. DR ALCREATOR

Wow, that is an amazing story Dallas. You were what they call a functioning alcoholic. It is quite an accomplishment to work two jobs and still keep a clean house and family meals on the table. Of course the alcohol kept you going. You are brave to tell your story. Good job Dear. Nancy

Thanks for the great review. I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have to ride the elevator to the bottom before seeking help.

Another well told chapter.
Once again, I see that you and I walked the same path. I wonder how many others there are.
The drinking at home, starting at a young age. Family gatherings, drinking bashes.
Failed marriage, two for me. Neither were healthy, or should have occurred.
Leaving the kids at home while out drinking.
The list goes on.

Thanks, Sharon, I am sure there are many. Alcholism is the only disease that tells us we don't have it. Denial is a primary curse.

A very well-written chapter. We sometimes become what we hate in others. There are many people who fall into the babit of overdrinking without initial intent and before they know they are in a dark corner.
