It's all about.. I Like, I Like. I'm not familiar with the length of lines in this sonnet. My sonnet efforts have lines with ten syllables.
This one has a great closing couplet.

Many thanks for your review of A Double Rainbow in New York. You are right to comment on the shorter lines, for sonnets are usually composed in iambic pentameter. Best wishes, Tony

I was born in New York and when I saw your title, I had to read the poem! I admired your rhymes, use of the obscure "palimpsest" and the "pot of gold" metaphor. Thank you for including your granddaughter's vivid, reinforcing photograph. Big cheers- Joan

This is certainly an exceptional sonnet. It is a great tribute to your daughter and granddaughter and the strength of maternal love that certainly does bring us the treasures of live. My greatest joy in life are my grandchildren and all those special little things we do especially like walking in the rain or picking blackberries in the field. A lovely picture.

They are a constant joy, despite the tyranny of distance! I appreciate your review and the six stars. Thank you!

Hi Tony! You are truly an amazing photographer as well as a talented writer. As always, your meter, rhyme, alliteration, and imagery was superb, but it is the emotion felt by this reader that makes this poem special and outstanding. Absolutely love the couplet and the optimistic positive attitude of this poem.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Very many thanks, Karyn. I wish I could take credit for the photograph. We receive many of them from New York keeping us in touch and there are some, like this one, that beg for an accompanying poem! Delighted that you thought it worth six stars! Best wishes, Tony

I knew that I saved a sixth star for a reason. When I see your name, I know it'l be great. This one doesn't disappoint! The similes were superb and the adjectives genius work. The picture of your daughter and granddaughter was beautiful. She's a lucky girl--she will receive a wonderful ode to her growing up one day!

Delighted that you thought this worth a sixth star. I'm putting most of these poems about Teagan to one side, with a view to making a book of them for her. I'm lucky that she has two accomplished photographers as parents. There are so many worth a poem that I can't keep up!

This is lovely, Tony. I like the photo and your poem, which is rhymed and with great word choices. Striking contrast between the colorful umbrellas and the cityscape. Nicely composed poem. Marilyn

That was a great presentation. Walking rainbows. So cute.

Wonderful sonnet for you to commemorate fatherly and grandfatherly love. God bless you and your family. Lovely work :)

Thanks, Pam. Yes, I could probably bore people silly with a poem a day about this little one! I hope you're enjoying a pleasant touch of spring now after the hard winter. Best wishes, Tony

You would never bore me with Teagan, Tony! I was looking for her yellow boots, or did she outgrow them?! Spring has not officially arrived. We had 4 snow storms in March, and just on the two streets where we are, trees fell everywhere. I guess you are in the fall season, now.

Hello Tony
A magical little poem
What a joy to be able to carry around your own rainbows on a rainy day.
One suggestion:
When maudlin thoughts [I cannot quell,]
I like the content of the third stanza,
though rhymes are a bit adventuresome.
But still, a pot of joy and gold.
RS (Robert)

Very many thanks for your suggestion, Robert. I was uneasy about that particular line and think that your alternative is a great improvement.
I've also puzzled about ways out of that stretched shadow of an imperfect rhyme in the third stanza, and have only been able to come up with the following so far - but am inclined to think 'palimpsest' may be too arcane:
"While nature?s second bow is pale,
    like words within a palimpsest,
a human child can blaze a trail
when of a mother?s love possessed."

I had to look up 'palimpsest' LOL
but its meaning works very well and the rhyme is much better, besides I like the word and am happy to learn of it. On FS you may want to define it in the author notes. Well done.

Thanks, Robert. I'll put up the alternative version for the remainder of the posting and see what reaction it gets, if any!

I want yo hold this to my heart. There is not much go l den in "go l den years"--exce p t for grandchildren. I've not known such j o y in my life than the melody of their laughter!
