So...short poems are soooo hard, but I like this one. It definitely hints at a larger story--why the did the recipient get this via text message?

The contest doesn't require this to be all one line, so you might try playing around with the line breaks to see what would give it greater impact. E.G.:

"Text message.

Funeral Thursday.
Mom died."

Eh... that's just one possibility. But line breaks might be used to emphasize the message of the poem.
