A beautiful transition from a negative to a positive while keeping with the form of the poem. The words are so very true and should be taped to every bathroom mirror in America.

Apathy
indifferent, insensitive
uncaring, unwilling, unfeeling
jaded disinterest (disinterest), responsive concern....all of the threats to our modern life and you describe it so well. Apathy is the enemy of us all kindest regards Meia xx

This diamante, Attitude Adjustment Needed, has the correct format and shows the necessary mind shift that is required to move from from our extinction course to a positive and life-affirming future.

I am still learning about these types of poems. I find that you did do a good job at putting this together, and that is what counts. It is just as good as the example and that makes it a great job. Thanks for sharing. Good luck in the contest.

This is what we call in German "starker Tabak" - strong tobacco.

It made me imagine you as an artist with a canvas, splashing the colours hard, furiously, dipping again and again into the strongest shades and using them generously to make them stand out vividly. To shake society awake and aware.

Really an excellent splash wisdom.

    Oh my goodness!
I don't speak German, but I surely love that phrase! "Starker Tabak!" That sounds like a wonderful title for a new poem! :)
Thank you so much for your excellent rating and thoughtful review. Even if I have managed to "nudge" society awake and aware, it's a step in the right direction! Thank you, again!

I would suggest capitalizing Responsive. Leaving in lower case implies it is another adjective for Apathy.

This is a good entry for the contest. I did not count syllables ir words.

One more point. Apathy is a noun. Responsive is an adjective. In case you care. Thank you for sharing

    Hello Pam,
There is no need to capitalize responsive. It is an adjective, placed in the fourth line to serve as a descriptor of the upcoming antonym, compassion = responsive concern
There is no need to count syllables in a diamante, but if you had, surprisingly, there are equal syllables in all but one line.
Apathy IS a noun; Compassion is the end noun/antonym that I chose to lead the reader. Thus Compassion IS capitalized.
Thank you for stopping by...and for your excellent rating...

No, I did not count syllables. I just did not know you were listing antonyms. I had no clue

There is a description of the form and requirements of a diamante that FanStory included/posted on the bottom of each participant's poem. Very informative. It takes a reader/writer step by step as to what type of words are required in a diamante and the progression from the beginning word to is concluding antonym. The diamante is not everyone's favorite poetic form, but it is challenging and rewarding to pen.

A thought strikes me, I might have gone from apathy to empathy, just to beat the same sound into beginning and end...not a criticism, just an idea, Excellent diamante.

    Hello LIJ,
I toyed with empathy, but as I researched more about the intricacies, nuances, and subtleties of the word, compassion struck a deeper note/chord with me and my message
Thank you for your suggestion, however!
And thank you for your excellent rating and review. So appreciated.

Wow, the extensive author notes really help the reader with this post. I loved your diamante poem. It reminded me of the saying, 'the reason bad men prosper, is because good men do nothing..." Not word for word, but something like that. I agree with the sentiment of your writing, though, apathy is a killer, and our responsibility as members of planet Earth is for us to take responsibility. Thanks for sharing your writing, Ana.

    Hello Ana,
Thank you for your excellent rating and thoughtful review. I always remember my 9th grade English teacher sharing with our class that "Apathy is man's greatest sin." Those words resonated so powerfully with me all those years ago; they still do...
    So pleased you enjoyed...
