This poem, Just My Mind Playing Tricks On Me, is a terrific send up for a good friend who has run her race and headed out before us. Friends are folded in deep and rough to part with.

Thanks a lot Bill, the reception for this poem has given me much needed vindication. I submitted it very early on and I was crucified. It only got two reviews as I did not promote it. It was called corny, sentimental drivel, etc. I removed it and did not submit it until now. So much for what those two losers know about poetry.

Thank you so much my dear friend. Some of us try our hand at writing and are surprised to find that people like what we wrote. We write something else and people like, we then start to think of ourselves as writers. We get a tweed jacket with leather patches at the elbow, start wearing a beret, smoking a pipe, do all the external things we associate with writers, but how many of us start working on developing our skills? Studying the greats, emulating those whose style we admire. Writing good material is more than just being inspired to write, if you do not employ hard work your work will always be good but never great. I have learned this from awesome writers like you, Dean K. Brooke Baldwin, and many, many others here on FanStory.

Very good work. I love this poem and it does the trick."I think I hear you call my name
and as my heart starts to fill with pain
I wonder if I am going insane
Because as I turn around to see
Again it's my mind playing tricks on me " Our minds always seem to play tricks on us, don't they. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing the tribute to two women with whom you became friends. I admired your rhymes and "two peas" simile plus "halls/room" metaphor. The darkness of the picture you selected reflects your pain. Sighs- Joan

Thank you Joan, I did search for some time then vacillated over the one I chose and some other fine material. I really felt the my choice was the one that best suited the poem.

Your time was well spent in finding an appropriate and parallel picture. Take good care of yourself- Joan

This is a very well put together piece of writing which I am pleased to see as all time best.
The sadness comes through very strongly , and its a fitting tribute to a special lady and good friend.
Well done.

Gorgeous picture that enhances the poetry which is nicely written and is a wonderful tribute to your friend passed on. Sometimes grief can cause our minds to play "tricks"... belief that we meet again can help lessen the grief perhaps a little. Well done.

Thank you so much. When I first joined FanStory, I submitted this poem, but did not promote it. One of the two person that reviewed criticized it so severely that I removed it and seriously considered leaving the site. You se I really believed in this poem as it was personal to me. I recently rediscovered it, cleaned it up a bit and resubmitted it. I am so glad that I did.

"Just My Mind (Playing Tricks on Me", is a deftly descriptive piece. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. I look forward to seeing your next post. This is a six, but I only have fives left. Tragedy happens all to often.

Thank you Duchess, fortunately along with the sadness caused by the tragedy, is the happiness one receives from kindhearted friends and even strangers who reach out to console the broken hearted.
-
nomi338, tragedy is sent to test us. With strength we'll overcome.
Best wishes, take care and bless you,
the Duchess

Grief is the number one reason why I write. It's therapy! I can feel your pain with the words, "my mind is playing tricks on me." I long to hear the voices of those I miss too. Your poem is a lovely tribute to your friends. I wrote a book, "Eulogies Unspoken: Stories of Worth" as a way to honor my parents. I'd be honored if you'd take a look. Thank you for sharing.
