Yep, we gardeners have faithful that the soil will produce something with all our toil. Wise words and I wish you luck with the contest, you said so much with so few words, love Dolly x

I think this is a good entry for the Seven Words or Less writing prompt.
You've told a clear story of a farmer's toil in just seven words.
Well done and good luck to you with the competition.

A very well-written seven word poem. A farmer's hands are often in the soil to see if there is enough moist to plant or just to see the quality of the soil.

Very brief in stated conveyance, still compelling in its presented viewpoints, I found it blunt with many inspiring thoughts one can consider. All in my opinion of this work.

Hi there;
Thank you for sharing your well-structured six-word poem. You did manage to incorporate a rhyme and center the piece on one theme. The artwork you chose to accompany the piece works well. Good luck in the contest,

~patty~

This is a new form requiring completion in seven words or less and containing a rhyme. Both requirements are adequately met in this case. The nub of the poem is a truism for the farmer's calling is a continuing act of faith. If he did not believe that the right climatic conditions would prevail he would not bother. In these days of meterological science perhaps the faith is undervalued, but imagine the blind faith necessary from settlers in a new land where future conditions are completely unknown.

    Hello Friend,
I hail from a long line of farmers on both sides of my family. The photograph of the farmer's hands really affected me in a positive way. So much toiling...and faith!
Thank you for your excellent rating and thoughtful review...

A profound write with a perfect picture adding to the theme; indeed, God created mankind to toil and that's the testament to faith; thanks for sharing and good luck!

I must know...please tell me...is this something unusual to FanStory these multiple challenges of short short poems? I've been on more than a few sites in the past decade and a half and nowhere have I seen so many challenges for one lines poems, or six syllable poems, or seven syllable.... It is a poetic tease to be impacted by a line or two and feel anxious to read more of what the author may have expounded upon only to be offered one single nibble of a poetic feast! Perhaps that is the point? I enjoyed what you write...but (a feather in your cap I suppose) I want more!

    Hello Karenina,
I am not certain how or when these short poem competitions originated. But they are challenging, and I agree with you that they are teasers...like flash fiction! Just when I get involved in a flash fiction, it ends!
I love to write the short ones, but then balance them out with one or two long ones. Keeps me on my toes!
Thank you for your excellent rating and thoughtful review!

I hear you...and flash fiction is also something new for me....I am sure
once I get my "sea legs" here I will be trying both....it seems so.....how can I say this? Not dissimilar to premature ejac..... (Oh never mind!--LOL)

Rest well....or form an old poem of mine:

...and isn't that the truth! Much toil and unswerving faith in the face of this year's deprivations by flood, fire and drought - not to mention insect infestations and hungry birds, possums and rats, etc!
But still we turn the soil and in doing so are at one with the earth. The spiritual nourishment is a constant, and Nature sometimes leaves us just enough to live on, too!
