The changes in society or in individual communities can sometimes be hugely painful... the quaint little village near where I grew up was once a community that would pitch in to help raise anyone's child; now it is full of people who do not know each other, are greedy, rude... and it is no longer a pretty place to be. We are left with memories and an awareness of loss.

There wasn't a village close, but the farmers swapped work and loaned tools when I was young. Not so now. Thanks very much for reading and reviewing.

Wow! This is a great poem for the challenge LIJ. Your lines are correct in the style of the mirrored refrain. Your message comes through loud & clear. I agree with all that you wrote. It is sad that so many do exactly what you have written yet believe they are showing their religious beliefs. I would rather have a small space to live knowing that I was genuine rather than putting on 'the airs' for others. Great job. Jan

I was raised in farm country, where the preacher was just another farmer who had a knack for interpreting the Bible, and usually gave whatever came back in the hat to the church. The hired college graduate parson always seems a little tongue in cheek.
Thanks very much for reading and reviewing, and I am pleased that you felt this rated a six!
