Reading this gave me a new appreciation for the phlebotomists. I am sure I would be nervous learning how to do all this. I like how you covered that it's not right to blow on the area (I guess moms used to do this!) .

There were several who dislodge the (dislodged)
Always remember than when fanning (then) ? instead of "than"
I didn't quite understand this sentence:
"The students portraying the patients were to carefully take the stopper out of their blue tube, then using the pipet were to put on drop on the gridded specimen class and count the three major blood cell"

So they are not acting like real patients as real patients wouldn't touch the tubes at all, right. It's just that the students are multi-tasking?
And is it "one drop" or "on drops?" and "major blood cells?" or cell types?

When I remember what this class were like on day one and how they are now i have to take off my hat to Mrs Armstrong and the way she has brought them round. Many "supply" teachers as we call those called in to stand in for the regular teacher care little for the work or the pupils and more for the money such work brings in.

Another fine episode.

Thank you for reviewing and your super kind comments. I agree, that most supply teachers don't really care for the students and are more interested in the pay check. Perhaps it was because she was a retired nurse that made a difference.

You have managed to explain a complicated topic in a clear manner. I often wondered how the students learned and you explained it here--black and blue arms as they practiced on each other. The sequencing of tubes and colors is complicated isn't it? Students, I'm sure, are very nervous on their first few days actually on the job. Marilyn

Forgive me on the last post. This a sophisticated class for teaching students to draw blood. It also appears that they are looking at the blood under the microscope and counting platelets, using a centrifuge and other important matters relating to using a syringe and needle. Am I getting close to what this is all about?

I very much enjoyed reading this book chapter. I placed myself as one of your students in the class and learned a lot about the process and technique. Thanks very much for sharing.
