It does make an impact, Catherine. I can see why it won the contest. The use of "crashing through" is what makes it stand out - there's surprise, excitement, upheaval, and an entire story in those two words! The presentation is great, too. I've been experimenting with colour myself in shorter pieces: it adds an extra dimension to the work, and is just plain fun anyway. Congrats on your win.

Hi Catherine,
I enjoyed your poem. It is simple and yet contains the 'joyful excitement' you aimed for. The image you have chosen embraces your work beautifully, well done.

The "CRASHING through" defines the ecstasy of true love. Or one hopes. There is power there, for sure, and the reverberations may be felt within for years hence.
Good job. Good luck with the contest.

Hi Catherine--
This poem depends a bit, more than a bit, too much, upon personal knowledge or experience the reader is not privy to. I'm glad that it has happened but it's more like an announcement, a card announcing a birth than a poem. I see there are extreme constraints on your..."announcement," but that does not much affect my reading of it as a poem.
Thanks

Thank you for your comments and review. I appreciate you giving it a good rating despite your thoughts on it. Do all poems have to reveal all? Doesn't it make more sense to let one read a poem and take from it what they wish to? That's my response to yours. Have a great weekend. God Bless!

This is a delightful 5/7/5 poem with a perfect picture and presentation. I can see why you won the contest. The satori line is definitely an ah-ha moment while the first two lines are grammatically connected.
Well done.

Love your words with this picture selection. Good combination. Creative haiku that blatantly explains what happens so many times when we least expect it. You did an excellent job with this. I liked it very much!

That's a wonderful way to express a love that made it through your defenses to reach your heart.
Not only did they make it through, they came crashing through.
How very sweet, and can actually be extrapolated to lots of different loves, even having a baby when you thought you couldn't.
Take care,
Rhonda

Yes, very true. It can also be a spiritual thing. I like your example. Did this happen to you? Never give up believing in miracles. They happen all the time and when they're least expected. Blessings to you! Thank you so much for your kind words and review.

It didn't happen to me, personally, but to my daughter who tried for 11 years to have a baby, then had two in two years.
