Some would label this socialism, I label it fact, fact through art and the artist, a social comment...and somewhere there, you find truth, truth of both sides, and more importantly, the passion and heart of the narrator.

One might like to call this prose, some may say near free verse, and again, what I call it is...a great piece of writing, for it has the aura and pockets of free verse, it has the freedom of prose, and it has the attributes of poetry.

I give this a sixth star.
Bravo.

My best wishes.

    Hello RGstar!
So incredibly honored and humbled by your review and rating. This one is so very dear to my heart. More of a social commentary than anything else, and definitely a verse written with "the passion and heart" of the writer.

Thank you ever so much for appreciating my poem.

Wowie, this is glorious free verse artistry, not only for its thought-provoking text and the beautiful photo but also in your author's
notes reflections. Blessings, john
PS: Please peek at my 5 7 5 poem "SNOW, RAIN and SUN", now entered in the Haiku contest, ending soon. I believe it is the ONLY Trilingual poem --which also rhymes-- in FS history! Blessings, john

What an important piece of writing! Mrs. KT, you need to be recognized for this important piece of literature. This should be read in schools and groups. How lucky your students were to have you as a teacher. Your after thought comments were as important almost as your writing. My words can't do you justice, I'm not educated enough to say what is in my heart and mind. I know people should read this. The kurlman

    Hello Friend,
I am so honored by your deeply thoughtful and complimentary words. I have labored writing this piece for nearly a month. And I was so tentative about posting it...fearing that my words would be misconstrued or met with apathy. I will never forget arriving in Salinas Valley and seeing the snakelike masses of migrant workers' vehicles all along the roads and observing their bent backs in the fields. And all I could think of was, "We're still here, John..." It was one of the most profound experiences of my life...
I am so very pleased that my words have made sense and moved you...

    Always,

This is a good entry for the Free Verse Poetry contest.
Your verse, in which you are talking to John tells a clear srory and paints the picture of his 'common man' very well.
Well done and good luck to you with this one in the competition.

An epic write and tibute Diane, good honest work riddled throughout these words and farmers never become really rich in this world and they work long hours with big responsibilities for the land, the crops, then labourers and their families. They used to pay the workers in beer in the UK to keep them in their place years ago. How times have changed. In schools in England pupils grow up thinking that they can become famous taking selfies and internet blogging to make easy money. Great words Diane, love Dolly x

I was introduced the John Steinbeck's writings in the tenth grade, "Of Mice and Men." "Travels with Charley" is one of my favorite titles. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words.
