I have not read your work for a while (just over-scheduled) and was pleased to have the opportunity today. I admired your use of rhyme in this 5-7-5 and your focus on the natural order of things, which responds well to the contest's prompt. Best wishes in the competition- Joan

This work has reached the exceptional level

This is a great 5-7-5 with the correct syllables for each line. Nice message about the wolves with great flow between the lines. My favorite lines is the second where you so aptly describe how the wolf howls to his pack and from the little I know, I know they communicate with the pack.! Enjoyed!

Hey girl, thanks for dropping by and for your great review. Yeah, I love wolves too. I watch a lot of nature shows on TV and they say that a pack of wolves are the best hunters in the world, even over lions. That's because they never give up, they stay with the prey until they bring it down.

I think a German Shepherd is the best dog for family protection that you can have. If you just want a gentle, easy going compassionate dog then go with a Labrador Retriever. I've had dogs around since I was just a young kid.

With Easter coming up in a few days, I imagine there will be a lot of contests for that. I haven't written a long poem in a long time, so I think I'll try one before warm weather sets in. The way it looks outside right now (snow flurries) we might not have a spring this time..lol.

Hey...you take care of yourself on your trip to Texas. I've always liked Texas...I spent 3 months in San Antonio many years ago...Have a good time and drop me a line when you get back...Your old buddy...Bill

I'm trying to find the meaning in your poem. If he's a lone wolf, then he wouldn't have a pack, unless it just means he's alone at this moment. And if he's stalking prey, then howling would scare it away. Maybe food was scarce and now he's the last one left and knows he'll die soon if he can't catch anything to eat? I can theorize about what it may be about, but I don't really see how exactly the lines are all meant to go together. I'm especially confused about what it means by death being on its way.

Thank you for your review. The "death" means the lone wolf howled to let his pack know he had found food, so now the pack (death) is on the way to kill the prey. Have a good weekend...

This could be the start of a wild story! The howls of wolves evoke such fear, no matter if you are hurt and dying, or sitting on a porch after dark with a nightcap. Really nice art to add to that spooky feeling. Good luck with the contest!

Beautiful 5-7-5 and just a bit chilling. To hear a wolf's howl in the night brings many feelings to humans. Personally, I like it. Probably not, if I were the prey. lol

I find wolves' lives very interesting. They such pack animals. As you know, I love anything to do with animals, and this is no exception. I'm going to 'fan' you, so I don't miss anything. 8-)

Thank you very much for your insightful review, I really appreciate it.

Yes, I totally agree with you, I also find wolves very interesting in many ways. I think they are the best pack hunters of all animals. The Lion and many others are strong contenders, however, they give up if they don't take down their prey quickly. Wolves never give up, they will stay with their prey for days. I watch a lot of National Geographic (lol).

Also, thank you very much for becoming a fan, it's an honor...

This is a scary write and so appropriate for the contest, a pack of wolves attacking is certain death for the prey, loved your eerie write, love Dolly x

Hello Dolly. Thank you for your excellent review, I appreciate it. It is sort of scary but that's what nature is all about. I guess if there weren't any predators the animal population would explode. Have a great day...Cheers.
