Hi Patty, I always enjoyed reading about the pups. They do seem to pick those times when we are writing to want to distract us or get some attention.

What a sweet story. And the picture of the dog is darling. Its' funny but dogs pick up on so much that goes around about them. They are very intuitive.

I enjoyed reading about Bernie. I do appreciate how you described Bernie and Howie as your loyal friends and companion. Being alone is a difficult terrain and dogs make that life bearable and enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, Patty,
A good story as usual. I'm so sorry for your sadness. I'm glad that Aldo got to enjoy your stories. That is very special, now I need to get my friends to read mine. It's like pulling teeth.
Take care,
Nome

Lovely story, Patty, about how the Bernie and Howie managed to tell you they knew you were upset. Animals are very tuned into our moods. So you have Aldo's ashes? I expect we will learn more about this on your story. Well done, my friend, another really well written story from the POV of your pets. Sandra xxx

(yes, I have Aldo's ashes as he wished. He never married or had children, so I was his beneficiary.)

That is so sad. I can't wait to read more about your story. I know you said it's fact mingled with fiction, but I'm beginning to realise there is more fact in this story. You are doing well, my friend. xx

You've done a terrific job with this story, patty. Animals always have that curiosity thing going on, even though they know more than they let on. I enjoy your easy unfolding of a story. It's most enjoyable.

Great job!

I wondered how the dogs would react to Aldo's death.
Pets can certainly sense sadness or illness and all they want is to make things better.
Terrific writing!

So sad, and I understand. Dogs get our feelings.

I only have the urns of doggy ashes and they are sealed so no smell escapes, even if/when I take them out to look.

So, dude, you got his ashes????

You wrote, "...good kibble in his bowl all contributed to his usual state of being content."---nothing wrong, but how about saying "state of contentment"?

(yes, I have Aldo's ashes. He never got married and didn't have any children, so the bulk of his estate (including the ashes) was left to me.)

I like how you tell us how things are with you through the eyes of Bernie. Pets are very keyed into their humans' feelings. It is a problem that he picks on Howie to get your attention! Did you really end up with Aldo's ashes?
grammar observation:
"petted both he and Howie" (since petted is a transitive verb, the pronoun 'he' should be 'him.'

I like that this was written from Bernie's Point Of View. It gives a different type of effect to the whole story.
Bernie definitely seems to be the more sensitive of the two dogs. In his own simple way, of course.
The main thing that he wanted was to get you smiling again. I think that he did that.
Dad says that, when he was younger, people all got together for weddings or birthdays. The only thing that people get together for now is funerals.
