Well done Andre'. It seems a shame that this noble creature has been tagged and allowed to live his existence in a chosen environment. Beautifully written superbly scribed and a delicately balanced subject, a most enjoyable post, well done, blessings, Roy

You do have a wide range of compassionate humanitarian concerns, Andre. ("Humanitarian" is an ironic term.) I wholeheartedly agree with you on this issue. The well-documented cruelties humans regularly inflict on animals are appalling. Atrocities like the one you're calling attention to in this excellent poem and the others you mention,
are equally unconscionable.

I hope, through your efforts, more folks out there will be motivated to address those shameless practices.

Your heart is in the right place.

Don

Yes, Don, several reviewers called these practices shameful. My poem struck a nerve with many people. Thank you for your review and encouragement.

A very well-written free verse poem and an ode to the captured mountain lion in San Francisco. No one knows how the lion gets there, the important fact is that he was captured safely and let go again and being monitored for the rest of his life.

Yes, Sandra, the important fact is that wildlife wardens captured and relocated the puma. Thank you for your review of my free verse.

I was an advocate forthe protection of the mountain lion corridors in So. California for years. After moving to the Mid-West..I told Fish and Game that abig cat was coming to my yard at night..They kept saying there were no big cats here..but I heard it scream and knew its cry. A game camera found it in our town
in night vision..Now many have been seen..
Great tribute!

Thank you, Nika, for your review of my mountain lion tribute and for sharing your story. San Franciscans were shocked when home surveillance cameras filmed this mountain lion walking past driveways in the City. Wildlife wardens mobilized and captured this puma several days later.

As a fairly new writer, I must say I admire this work of yours very well. Your words painted a very vivid story in my head, and I love how you incorporated a story into this poem. I will be reading more of your work!

Well done.
I like your word choice and how you have captured this story so well in a poem that also incorporates lovely rhythm, images, and commentary to drive the message home.
Good luck in the contest.

I remember this story, Andre! It's in your stomping grounds, right? I do hope the mountain lion fares well in his new digs. You are so right that we have invaded his space but we don't want him hunting our pets. Great song-like tribute for the big cat. But alas, his freedom will be tracked.

Yes, Lyenochka, this is in my stomping grounds and another mountain lion is stomping in my stomping grounds. While researching about the cougar captured in San Francisco, I discovered that another roamed within a mile of my home across the Bay.

Thank you for your encouraging review.

What happened to him? Hope he went to a zoo? Or re-located to the wild? I know they are a threat to us when they enter our habitat, but they don't understand boundaries. Your poem is poignant and I liked the bit about Arizona, thank goodness he wasn't roaming the streets there! Wild, wild country America! Great write, thank you for bringing this news to me, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly, for giving my poem its first review. The mountain lion was collared, tagged, and released in the wilds near Crystal Springs where it roams today. Thanks again.
