Hi Mrs. KT, lovely artwork and a wonderful 5-7-5 poem. The descriptions and imagery create a great metaphor for persevering through life and its challenges.

Hello MelB!
How honored and humbled I am by your thoughtful and complimentary review! I struggle with these short/fixed poetic formats. I have edited this piece no less than a dozen times...just searching for the precise wordage in such a small offering.
Many thanks!

This speaks about the sunset in motion, action, as if it was racing towards its destination with stroke for stroke against the sea waves; well said, well done. Keep writing. DR ALCREATOR

A very well-written 5-7-5 poem to view a wonderful sunset and be able to paint it in a beautiful picture for the world to see is a great talent revealed. A moment in time captured forever.

Hello Dolly!
One of my dearest college friends snapped this photograph.
It resonates with me on both a literal and metaphorical level...
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review!

Excellent poem for the 5-7-5 contest. In just eleven words you convey a story. The rowers race against not only the waves, but also the sunset. The last line then sums it up. Their courage and determination is shown by the blisters they have earned from their hard work with the oars. Your words brought this picture to life. Great job. Good luck in the competition!

Hello Susan!
So incredibly honored by your thoughtful review.
The longer I gazed at the photograph, it took on an even deeper meaning for me: life is a race to the sunset...
Best Wishes and again, many thanks,

Ah, yes it certainly is! Amazing what we can glean from a simple snapshot.

I love the photo, but let's pretend you didn't use it. What would we be seeing? I love competitive rowing, but are we really witnessing "courage"? May I suggest using " oar-blistered rowers" instead?

Hello RodG
I appreciate your suggestion of "oar-blistered rowers" as on a literal level that is what the photograph depicts. My daughter was the stroke seat for her university's 8 women crew team, and her hands were definitely "oar-blistered" after each practice and race. But the photograph takes/took on a far deeper meaning for me as I gazed upon it. Metaphorically, the rowers in the photograph depict faith and courage to me to persevere as they or we "race to the sunset..."

Yes, I may be too literal. I love your metaphorical interpretation. Rod

Oh Rod!
No worries. Once when my daughter was racing, her coxswain steered the boat into a cement buoy. The result was that my daughter's "unbreakable" oar split in two and my daughter nearly bit her tongue in half in the process. When I think of rowers, even on a literal level, I think of courage! :)
Be well!
