Your notes were outstanding and so informative ee. They could've
been a separate post. However, they gave great info on the original
poem. Your version was in keeping with it. I liked the rhyme scheme
used as that's a good one for storytelling. Your words were descriptive
and painted a great picture for readers. Your poem was an easy read
with great imagery.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

As I've often said, when it comes to poetry, I wouldn't know a sonnet from sorbet. But even an untrained ear can read and enjoy the rhyme, meter, and verses they can't write. To be touched my another's sensitivities.
Thanks for sharing.

This is very well done. My favorite poignant stanza :
Sweet mystery of life, not found when dead,
But in anticipation free of dread,
For life begins anew with every breath
And every rising from the slumber bed.
Thank you for sharing!

Easy, I don't think this was easy to write, but dang, is it ever good! I have read some of Omar's work, although it was many years ago. Your poem certainly captures the style. While I do like the whole poem, the sixth stanza is exceptional. I am sorry I am out of sixes. Terry.

The first translation remains the best poetically I think and as you say has become a classic in its own right. Your version certainly merges well with the Victorian one. The musical quality is retained.

As a child my father often quoted the Rubaiyyat. Of course I didn't understand a word. Now I treasure those poems. I also thought 'the moving finger writes and having writ, moves on.' Was from the Bible with Nebuchadnezzar! Says how dumb I was as a kid. Thank you for sharing beautiful and meaningful poetry. Your Down Under sweetheart!

it is nice to be a student of poetic verse. Not everyone has the love or diligence to understand the nuances that exist in so many formats great writers have used over the years. And new ones being formed to stretch the beauty of words.

First, your notes were are so enlightening. I have never heard of this man before, but the teaser you have given us of part of one of his poems, was fabulous, and a true classic. When I read yours, written the format of Omar Khayyam's, I found it a delight to wander in. Your tribute to this scholar is well done, and well deserved. I'll have to look for more of his work. :) Sandra xxx

This is a good poem that you have written. I am not sure I totally understand what it is saying. I do find that your notes are very interesting about the part that you're referring to. I wish you the best and all of your writing. Patricia.
