Greetings,

This poem of yours very much reminds me of a home I rented in Magnolia, Washington. It too had not been lived in for years, and it still was filled with its decorated memories. Upon first opening of the front door, cobwebs blocked all directions. Once inside, it was like a venture back in time, with furniture and fixtures of the 30's. I was told by the owner, a gentleman of age, that after his wife at the time died there, he just left it and never had returned. The house held many mysteries and was fodder for the imagination. I am convinced I encountered a ghost there. It was, and remains, and experience for which I have no rational explanation.

I enjoyed this poem a great deal. The waking at the end was a nice touch.

Thanks you Joseph for your thoughtful review. You are braver than I am. I love old houses but not the cobwebs etc. We do have friends who bought a house that they were sure was haunted. They named the ghost Lucy and just had fun with it. We have stayed with them many times but Lucy never did anything while we were there. Actually, she never did anything, it was just a sweet smell that no one could explain in one room in the house.

I enjoyed reading your poem, the rhymes are smooth and the lines flowed smoothly. The imagery is rich, the message is clear and can be easily understood by the readers. The picture of the house is quite scary but the twist of the poem is not that dark. But I want it that way, for I am not really a fan of the scary, horror genre.

Dear Janet, loved this. My only sadness was it is but a dream. I love the nostalgia that these sort of houses bring, and you brought such feelings to life here, for there are such houses with such stigmas, and it always fascinates me, why, and how.

I liked the nod to the Christmas classic. In the end, I saw a few parallels. Instead of elves in red, I think you saw workers in blue. But alas, who can really explain our dreams? I do know that the image you provide is eerie. I liked the rhymes and the poem rolled off my lips pretty easily. Plus, there is a story in there. Good luck in the contest.

This is a fun story in a poem :) You tried ye old twist ending, and it worked on me lol! I think Dean would like this poem. It has the chilling creepy feeling at the end. Nightmares can be terrifying. Best wishes in the contest.
