Speaking as a foreigner, I always found the negative perception of NASCAR bizarre. It strikes me as a very similar sport to Formula One, in terms of skill, risk, nobility and, indeed, knowledge (those aren't box-cars they're driving, it's only a team of remarkably talented engineers that keeps them on track and competitive). Yet F1 is granted an aspirational, high-brow reputation, and as you say, NASCAR is looked down on by so many. It deserves so much more respect than it's given. But I digress...

An excellent write, your story is very well told and final point both well made, and, frankly correct.

One minor suggestion, and this just may be a differing convention between the UK and US:

We would write 'extra ordinaire' as 'extraordinaire' (I believe it's lifted straight from the French language, but haven't the further knowledge to back that up :) ). If the convention is different in the US, obviously that's fine, but I thought I'd raise it, just in case it was an error.

Great job, and great choice of sport.

Take care.

Thank you for reading and the wonderful comments. I debated for some time about the extraordinaire and I believe you are correct. I really appreciate this helpful note. Editing will be done. Thank you so much.
Yes, the sport deserves respect and most fans are not illiterate. Drivers train to perform well but it is the pit crews that help them be successful.
    Have a great evening.

Thank you for sharing this interesting story. I certainly don't find the story amusing. Socialites have a tendency to forget where they came from.

Sporting people remember who helped to put them on the top with their continuing support

Thank you for your empathetic comment. I was appalled by this behavior. Thank you for reading and understanding why I wanted to share, a lesson to be learned. I am proud to be who I am, Redneck or whatever.
    Hugs back,

This work has reached the exceptional level

I have always been captivated by the number of fans that Nascar has. More than that I did not realize how smitten fans are about the drivers as well. But I should have expected it by comparing Nascar to football, baseball, basketball and etc. Incidentally, I forgot about the Redneck moniker. I think the bad implication of the name has lost some of its irritation, in general.

Yes, labels for people are preposterous. It is people like you that keep me writing and sharing. We are all God's creations and should be respected. Differences in others make the world spin and should be admired.
Thank you friend, ( Hope your world is getting calmer.)

I'm very fortunate by my standards but my situation calls for more thought, which blocks my bent to write what I would be happy to share. This hobby has gotten serious. I did not expect to make the kinds of friends who encourage as you, Brigitte. So, I hang in here the best way I can until I write something. Thanks, my friend.

Boy, what a snob that girl was. I am an avid NASCAR fan myself, although of late, I am very disappointed with some of the rule changes, the format for racing, etc. But, I still love racing. You are absolutely right about how ignorance is very evident on those who think they are high and mighty. Loved your story.

Yes, the changes do not make sense. They have taken the excitement and sponteneity out of the sport. I'm still a die hard and keep watching them turn left.

Ha! What a hateful reply on her part. I believe I know who you are speaking about & it fits. I enjoyed your story. Good job telling it in a sensible way & letting readers decide. I for one would have been honored by all the attention. Redneck & Texas, where I live, go hand in hand. Thanks for sharing. Just goes to show money & power can't but one class. Jan

Me too, Jan, I would have been honored. Awesome to learn something new about you. Yes, you can't fix stupid. Her loss was someone else's gain. He is now happily married and expecting the first child. Thank you for reading and the lovely comments.

Thank you. One of my most prized possessions is a framed picture of Kevin in his private vehicle, signed. We met two years ago. The other framed memento is a letter Bobby Labonte wrote to my first graders. Go #18 and #4, Feb.28th, can't wait.
I have a whole room filled with cars, etc, it drives my husband crazy.
    Have a great evening.

Kyle's wife, Samantha helped me pick out clothes for book signings. That was exciting. She has a clothing line. I will see Kevin and Kyle in Richmond. Too old to go to far away races but Richmond is close. I am so lucky, praise be to God. My hubby's driver, Jeff Gordon, retired, so hubby isn't interested anymore! I love the excitement. May go to Martinsville, not too far.

Yes, Martin is outstanding. My two prized Nascar possessions are in front of me. A signed picture of Kevin Harvick we met and he is in his private vehicle. I also have a letter Booby Labonte wrote to my first graders. I can't wait for the season to start. My story, the driver just married and they are expecting a baby! Her loss was someone else's gain. Hope you are doing well.
    Thanks for reading.

This speaks a question - who had good manners, the educated socialite or the Redneck Nascar driver, since she paid a goodbye; well said, well done; thank you for sharing this with us. DR ALCREATOR
