Depending on the age of the targeted children, there's a few big words in there. I did check the Flesch-Kincaid reading level and it estimates your word choice and sentence length could be easily understood by children in the 4th grade and up (US grade system). My measurement program did suggest two of your sentences were long.

Anyway, the bottom line is that you wrote a pleasant little story. This 61 year-old child had no problem understanding it. I especially liked the last line - a huge smile trapped in a dog's body.

Thanks for reading and for your thorough review, Dan.
I had never heard of that measurement program before, so it's good to learn something new.

My dog Mina sleeps in my lap as I read your story I can imagine as an illustrated children's book. Your prose is simple and painterly, almost poetic as you keep the reader guessing what Becka is:

Becka is white, at least when she is clean. Then, she looks like a little pile of moving snow.

The line about the kibble and the chew toy had me guessing dog.

This is a fanciful, silly story that reveals the identity of Becka in the end. Story speaks of the joy, fidelity, and love of dogs.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for your lovely review. Becka is my daughter's dog, but I seem to remember you have read and reviewed stories about her before.

This was absolutely great Maria. I think your suggestion in your notes was a fantastic idea. You presented it in such a way that one could not help but love and adore Becka, especially children. You addressed all the unique things a dog will do that a cat or human does not or can not. Very well done, and immensely enjoyed. Thanks.

I'm glad you liked it, Aryr. Becka is my daughter's dog. I bought her as a present for her when she finished school four years ago.

I really like that expression Maria, " a huge smile trapped in a dog's body". Theres a lot being written as tributes to our four legged friends, who are certainly worthy of our praise, they return love like as if God compels them to, as a reward for kindness. Great descriptive, enthused and lovely article Maria, well dine, blessings, Rioy

Maria, this is a cute story ans I can see it being a child's bedtime book. There are several things in the story that could be turned into love pictures in the book, Like her being dirty and trying to give her a bath. Climbing a tree and chasing a bunny. All these things lend themselves well for an accomplished artist to work with. Patricia

'A huge smile trapped in a dog's body.' I wouldn't say it's trapped because she is such a happy little girl. I love the line, though.

I think children will enjoy hearing/reading this.

Hi MJ,

I liked this. I read a lot of younger stories at home with the wee one.

I'm not sure here but some of the words may be a little long, given the target group. Attentive could be alert for the eyes possibly. kibble - food and so on.

All the best
G

You might be right, Gareth. I haven't read children's stories with my kids for some years now, but when I did, I often noticed some used really big words and my kids enjoyed them all the same (they were probably just enjoying being with me and looking at the pics while getting the general idea).
    Thanks for reading. Take care.

I wrote a lot during the Christmas holidays, but then work started again and I don't seem to have time for anything. Read, write, review...
Thanks for reading my little story.
