Well, you can't riff Pink Floyd and hope for a cheerful outcome, can you?

Now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all night!

Well, I agree. We could be so hopeful of causing change, in our youth.

I never really had the rage, but I liked reading your expression of it.

Your lament resonated.

Hi, Victor! I'm a baby-boomer too: Canvassed for Eugene McCarthy in 1968. Even went to a couple of SDS meetings before their Marxism turned me off big-time. At any rate, to the poem...I liked these lines a lot: "We rose as one/We blazed brighter than sun/Raised our fists in rage." I like the "blaze-sun" image; it's real. And did we ever "rage!" The denouement is perfect: "without need for more / than love of man / Yes...try that if you can." That IS the ticket. We all know it now, and you've nailed it. One thought: "All you need is love," from the Beatles---maybe we needed to pay better attention to that and related songs. Cheers! ---gw

Victor,

This sounds a lot like those peace-loving hippies that decried the wars of the time saying they've done their time. They did their part and they are now turning the baton over to another generation. *smile* Neat idea. It's time, I think. *smile*

Man is trapped between two powerful forces, both more powerful than we. One says that he loves us so much that he was willing to sacrifice his only begotten to try to save us. The other one is powerful that he made the sacrifice necessary. I speak of course, of the conflict between God and Satan the devil. Through the years men have tried to change the world, an impossible task. It has been said that if you want to make God laugh, just tell him how you plan to change the world without his help.

I could hear Wish You Were Here as I read this. One of Roger Waters' best lyrics, I think. But you caught the gist of here, the rhythms of it, the nuances, and personalized it a bit, brought in Vietnam, all those memories of youth. It seems like simpler time now, but then again, the past always seems that way; we know what happened there, we know how it all turns out, and it is the future that is unsettling and uncomfortable. estory

Thank you for this poem, it touches all of us baby-boomers emphasizing where we have been and where we are headed. I enjoyed your words and look forward to reading more of your work.

Where did you get that awesome photo? That is so cool how the cat and dog dressed in happy time bar outfits. You are so right, because I wonder where did our youth go and our dreams. Seems so many people have abandoned their dreams for nightmares. lol liberty justice WELL DONE.

From the greatest generation, to baby boomers, to millennials. How the mighty have fallen. Where do we go from here? There doesn't seem to be any way out.
