A very well-written story. I was not muchv of an athlete myself, but I liked playing tennis and walked miles with my husband in the evenings after work. Now I'm mostly in a wheel chair and type nonsense on my computer. Lol.

I hate exercise, too. But I love to walk. As for joining a gym, no way. I hated PE, too. I wasn't at all athletic then.

I can empathize with this so well.

Yeah, I guess many people can. Not everybody is as athletic as my son, but people are ashamed of saying they are not into sports.
    Thanks for reading.

Listed as general fiction, I empathize with this narrator. If this was meant to be non-fiction, consider changing the category. The writing is fine. The message is clear. I liked the interaction with the sons and the honest approach to your physical fitness truth. I looked for nitpicks and only found one below:

You wrote: "... in the Guiness books of records..."
I suggest: "... in the 'Guinness World Records' books..." or use italics to emphasize the book

Nice going. It seemed like this was triggered by something that happened to you while walking thru the city. Light, but effective prose. Great job.

I'll change the category now. It's non-fiction. Thanks for reading.

Hello Maria
a running potato is so much better than a couch potato
doing nothing. I like how you tell us
I'm not a total couch potato, though. I'm a very active person and walk to work every day.

You are the truest physical fitness hater that I have ever known. I was not a big fan of P E while in school but learn to enjoy it later. But you are the only person that I know that is a lifetime hater. There is always something for me to learn.

You are taking responsibility for your actions. Had a gym teacher just like her. Guess the exercise worked for her she is in her 80es and a cancer survivor. She made many girls lives miserable during her teaching "career!"

Mine didn't exercise much, at least in my presence. She just looked on while we did.

Maria, this is a very good piece about exercise. I love to walk and because of severe pain in my back I can no longer walk as I used to do. At one point in an eighteen month period of time I walked over 1300 miles and lost 90 pounds, The health benefits were great. Then after all that walking I had the fist heart attack. I miss being able to walk. Patricia

I understand, Patricia. We don't value the things we have till we can no longer do them. I should walk more and I'll try to.
    Thanks for reading.

LOL this was fantastic Maria, it was so nice to see someone else who was not into the whole exercise thing and be honest about it. Two things however; never ever feel shame of your lifestyle choices, and don't blame Angustias Bocanegra (wow that is truly a tongue twister for us English speakers). Some are meant to be fitness gurus (your son) and some are not but those of us who are not excel in other ways. So for what it is worth... be happy who you are and be proud of what you do (and don't do). Very well done, thanks.

Thanks for reading, Aryr. The bit about blaming my teacher was a bit of a joke. She was quite mean to me though. Maybe she was trying to help, who knows.

You are very welcome Maria, perhaps she was indeed trying to help and maybe she did.

Thanks for an honest opinion. Now, you are actually doing healthy exercise,- waking. Is one of the best. But if you're only walking further than the next door neighbor's. So take heart -your prose have saved you! So the mix of GReat attitude and COUCH make you a GROUCH. LOL thanks for sharing

I have to exercise 6 days a week. I dance my planned exercise with a partner for balance Ins. 3 Days. It?s fun that way. The other 3 are done with a gym coach for muscle strength. You are welcome

I had the same feelings as you for years Maria about exercise. When I was growing up my Mother would exercise all the time and I went with her to the classes but my heart was not in it. I did go to classes periodically during my life to get slim and I have always remained slim. But later when I had trouble with my knees, and the doctor said you can have injections or you can exercise, it was an easy choice. When I don't exercise my knees hurt, so I have to exercise otherwise I will not be able to walk! Glad you are going to a gym now, it is important to stay mobile, good luck!, love Dolly x

You're lucky to be slim. I'm not as slim as I used to be and I hate it, so I guess I should do something about it.
    Thanks for reading.
