lol See we have another thing in common my friend. I didn't like P.E. in school either. I did everything I could to not take it or exercise. I am more active now then I ever was back then. This is a really cute write. It made me giggle as I read it. Great wording and imagery! Blessings! Thanks for the smile! Teri

Terrific write, Maria. So right on the money with me. Running or doing anything for no purpose is totally lost on me. Those P.E. classes were the worst. Like you I wanted to shrink into the woodwork. All that sweat! Not for me. I do like to walk, though, do tai chi and swim. I'm glad to hear there are others like me who are not gym rats. Marilyn

Ha, Maria, I know the feeling well. I am a better walker (14,000 steps today, thank you) than I am an athlete. I wrote a poem a while back about how I came in last in a 3K race. You write unapologetically about not being a gym rat or a power walker:
I don't mind doing it if I'm going somewhere, but walking or running just for the sake of it seems pointless and boring.
You then delve into your traumatic childhood with a mean gym teacher. Mine was named Mrs. Paterson. You write humorously:
My gym teacher didn't like me and I guess the feeling was mutual. I've never forgotten her though, her name was Angustias Bocanegra. Let me try to translate that for you: Sorrows Blackmouth. No, don't laugh. I'm not kidding.
I know you are not kidding.
You end by blaming her instead of "taking responsibility for my actions."
A fine piece, but come tomorrow, I will walk somewhere by walking to the bank and back. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for your thorough review, Andre. I will also try to do some more exercise. Walking at least.

Well written and well said.
And I agree totally. I don't mind walking if I'm going somewhere, but I don't care to walk or jog without a purpose.
The one thing I try to do regularly is swim. I like the water and that doesn't feel much like exercise.

I like swimming in the summer, but I hate indoor pools. Too much hassle, what with the goggles and the cap...
Thanks for reading.

Totally agree Maria, I hated PE in high school, but I love this humorously told story of why you haven't and are never likely to, join a gym. Really enjoyed this, it leaves me smiling.
cheers.

Good morning, Maira: This is another great write. I love the whole story and especially the reveal of this character's oldest son and the youngest son having to force her to work out. i could picture the whole scene below. This was tooooo cute.
My eldest son is a long-distance runner and the fitness guru in the family. This Christmas he tried to coach me and succeeded for a few days. Don't be under any illusions though, my efforts won't get me an entry in the Guiness books of records, but still...
When he went on holiday, the youngest made me (yes, there was force involved) play basketball with him and came to the conclusion I'd better stay at home writing nonsense on my computer. And don't think he bothered to spare my feelings... maybe he was trying to motivate me (police academy style).
I love this woman's attitude and personality. She is a very likable character. I really enjoyed reading this story. It made me smile this morning. Thank you for the smile when I din't feel like smiling.

Hi Tier,
I'm glad you liked this woman because it's me. I forgot to change the category to non-fiction. This really happened over the Christmas holidays.
I'm also glad I made you smile. Take care and thanks for reading.

hahahaha, that is terrific. You are a very likable person so I kinda knew it had to come from your real life. Your children sound great.

They are! Most of the time at least ;)

Exercise isn't for everyone, Maria. I happen to enjoy it because the activity rejuvenates me, gets my juices flowing. With my heart condition I have to be very careful, however. No jogging or running for me. Fast walking is about the best I am permitted to do.
So, just stick to exercising your brain by writing more stories for us to read and enjoy.
If that's what makes you happy, so be it.

Thanks for your review, Dean. I still think I should exercise. I guess I'm just too lazy...

You're welcome, Maria. :)

LOL! Fun piece. I can relate. I spend the whole day ... and night... here at my computer learning stuff, watching movies, reading, and writing. My eyesight has been affected. I just got new glasses two months ago and I think I need a new prescription! I used to go to the gym. It was okay, but boring. Now there is a huge treadmill in the living room, the onlhy place it would fit. I use it for physical therapy, because my legs are weak. I don't walk enough due to lung disease, and it does help. No fun, tho. No gym equipment is fun. :)

Sorrows Blackmouth?
Did her parents hate her, or what? OMS. I don't know when I've heard a worse name (in real life, that is.) But, I know what you mean about the topic of exercise for the sake of exercise. It's hard to wrap my head around it. hahaha! Nice!

That's what I always thought. Her parents chose a terrible name to go with her surname.
Thanks for reading.
