Reviewed in the blind: Pretty solid story. A great beginning, a mysterious middle, and a satisfying end. There were no spelling or grammar errors. But there was a spacing issue between some sentences. It did not interrupt the flow of the story, though, I was able to breeze through this.

For me, the allure of this story is that you added Capone elements. It took on a good versus evil theme on top of a bully story.

I liked it. If you did not know, you are able to re-open a story and remove all those empty spaces between sentences. Good luck.

Thank you so much, Dan, for your close reading of CAPONE'S VAULT and your king praise. I will look into that spacing problem.

I loved this story, mostly because I own a copy of Poe's complete works. "The Cask of Amontillado" and "Mask of the Red Death" have inspired me, too. The story is well constructed, entertaining, and a great entry for this contest.

Of all the kidnapping stories I'm likely to read, I think this one would most likely be the most chilling, cold as ice, as calculating a revenge story could be. Well done, good plotting, a good, unsympathetic character like Joey, and a wonderfully cold, calculating instigator and imitator of death. Great job, good luck, blessings, Roy

I enjoyed this Poe inspired story. It's from "The Cask of the Amontillado" if I'm not mistaken. I wish you best of luck in the contest.

I only noticed one thing. The use of cowl, which does mean cloak, is most commonly referring to the actual hood of the cloak or monk's habit. So, I paused on it for a moment before realizing what you meant.

Good luck,
Russell

So pleased you enjoyed CAPONE'S VAULT and I appreciate the best wishes, Russell. Yes. "cowl" refers to either the robe or the hood.

Excellent entry into the Kidnapped contest prompt. I liked your well thought out tale and how it flowed. The sequencing was good. The photo were spot on too. Good luck in the contest.
