It's getting more and more bold, how commercialism overtakes
all our holiday seasons. Here in Germany they start selling
Christmas gingerbread as early as September, complete
with Stollen! Come October and all the decoration stuff is up
for sale all the way to the St Nicholas-shaped and gowned chocolate!

But this one of yours was a first for me - Valentine NOW already?

There on the display, a sign read quite clear
Valentine's Day is not far away...
Shop now for your loved one, do not delay.
Appalled at the rush to make the time fly
The display of cupids and hearts ,I wanted to cry
Hurriedly, wanting to exit, I opened the door
Not feeling Christmassy anymore.

I'd have done the same.

Thank you for reading and reviewing this poem. I remember being in Germany and how we went house to house with gingerbread cookies and stolen and can't forget pretzels on New Year's Eve. It always snowed and was so beautiful.
Yes, commercialism is the bottom line now, I hate it. ( I lived in Darmstadt)
Happy New Year to you and yours,

How wonderful to learn that another FanStorian here lives in Germany (Darmstadt)! Well, this will certainly give my year a happy start.
Hope you keep in touch and read my current story (set mostly in Hamburg).

Sorry, silly me - I read "I live" instead of "I lived". Still, it was a lovely feeling to have that thrill for a minute!

I always read what I want to see, not what is actually there. We have that in common.

A very well-written poem. All the special days we enjoyed is so commercialized that the meaning of the special day disappears. Here, Christmas is followed by 'back to school' and on its heals are Valentine's and easter etc.

Isn't that the way of it, though!.... I like your poem!... Nice flow to it,
and well written... I don't see why it shouldn't do well in the contest...
Well Done and Good Luck!!

Thank you dear friend. I generally do not do well in contests but that's okay. I write because I love it. Glad you liked this one.

    Happy New Year!

Oh, I can relate to the Speaker's lament here. You do not have to go far to see the VD displays, the big red hearts and candy galore. I like how the poet describes her "Christmassy" mood pre- and post seeing the new store.
Nice subtle use of rhyme lightens the tone, too.

This is a very well written poem about the rush from one holiday to another each year. It just makes time fly by instead of savoring the moments that we have left on this earth. Very good descriptive wording and very good imagery! Blessings, Teri

Very realistic, well written. Wonderfully display of how the world has gotten itself in such a hurry. I completely felt what you were getting at. The dark colors I much like yet i have been getting the negative about sight. But don't pay attention to others.

This speaks the eternal truth, everything ends, there is sign of times tells what is for what and how long it stands; after the Christmas, there is other movements come on way; no feeling of Christmas anymore ; I liked. DR ALCREATOR
