Hello Author, A poem of truth, and I share your sentiment. Christmas has become so commercial. It's over on December 25th. I, too, have seen Valentine decorations, etc. in the stores. When I was a young girl, the Christmas season began with Advent but the holiday prep and celebration didn't really begin until just before Christmas and would last through January 6th - the Feast of the Epiphany. Stores remained decorated until the New Year, and Christmas trees remained aglow into January. I enjoyed reading your poem. I especially liked:

I wanted to relax and enjoy the magic displays
Off to a store, to leisurely glimpse the last Christmas tree
No more cooking, entertaining, or buying gifts to wrap
Just wanted to browse and enjoy the magic once more

(I, too, wanted to do that today, but here in NJ we got that nasty four-letter word called snow which turned out to be really ice -- yuck! So, home I stayed, and now I'm reading your lovely poem ... smiley face here.)

A timely poem. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. Happy New Year, and keep the valentines under wrap at least for a few more weeks. LateBloomer

This review made me feel wonderful. When a reader can relate to my work, I feel elated. Sorry, your weather is so frigid but it will change, there is the hope that life offers to us. Valentine's Day is a commercial ploy in my opinion, for love reigns (or should) every day. Thank you for the six stars. I am honored.
    Happy New Year!

Get ready for Easter Baskets and colored egg displays. They are just around the corner. It seems, each year, the stores start earlier and earlier with Halloween candy right after Back-to-School supplies. Then they start with Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving is even close! You're right, they blend the holidays together, one right after the other. You wrote a very good poem about something that bothers a lot of us, I'm sure! I like how you tell it like the Christmas Story. The rhymes and flow are excellent. I especially like your conclusion of, "Not feeling Christmassy anymore." A great way to end it. The artwork is amazing, and I like how you use the "Behind The Door," writing prompt, as a framework for your piece. Well written and very topical. By the way, Happy New Year!
Take care, Jesse

I loved your poem. Very cute, well-written and timely. I would feel the same way, not Christmassy. I was in our grocery store the other day, and in the checkout aisle they even had Easter candy!! Really? Thank you for sharing and this is a great poem for the contest. Have a wonderful New Year, 2018!

Hahahaha!
This wouldn't be so sad and funny simultaneously if it wasn't also so true, Anonymous Poet.
I gotta admit, I sure didn't see that ending comin'...not by a mile!
This was a grrrrrrrrrrreat mockery of over commercialization.
Best wishes to you in the contest.
~Dean :)

The holiday season never ends. Fortunately, my wife says that Valentine's day is a fake holiday. It was made up by Hallmark to sell more cards. Now, birthdays and anniversaries begin. I have six kids and they come in a row for January through September.

In one word, "AWESOME!" A most commendable 'Behind The Door' writing prompt entry. Thanks for sharing with us on FanStory. I'm mailing more ink for you're quill--"Keep on 'a writing," my dear friend. Sorry! I had no Six Stars, I used them all on myself. Sheee! I did not know "I shouldn't do this." I'll be waiting in the voting booth. Happy New Year and God bless.

Thank you dear friend for this support. I stopped writing for about two weeks, my muse had run away. It came back on that last train. Now, I'm back. Thanks for the ink sweetie.
Happy New Year to you and may your Guardian Angel be always by your side.

Yes indeed, we live in a world of commercialism where we are manipulated. You expressed the sentiments that should resonate with all; lovely rhyming; the last line, "Not feeling Christmassy anymore,"-brings home the essence of our commercial lives.

I think you've hit the proverbial nail on the head with this one - I only hope it isn't a true story in this poem (though I suspect it is - I have not been out in days - too cold!) "Just wanted to browse and enjoy the magic once more..." Ah, yes! This is such a good contrast to the shocking last stanza! Good luck in the contest!

It is freezing here but I love cold weather. Unfortunately, this is a true story but the love and faith of the season are still in my heart.
    Happy New Year!

There on the display, a sign read quite clear
Valentine's Day is not far away...
Shop now for your loved one, do not delay.
Appalled at the rush to make the time fly
The display of cupids and hearts ,I wanted to cry
Hurriedly, wanting to exit, I opened the door
Not feeling Christmassy anymore. ' I totally agree. On Christmas day they are advertising sales on T.V. Then it will be New Year, then Valentines, fathers day, Mothers day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas...all so commercialised and full of expectation rather than genuine though. Well done and good luck in the competition, Love Meia x

The holidays are rushed, Christmas items were on display before Halloween this year. Your poem has a feel of fun and relaxation until the Valentine gifts are mentioned, so true, the stores are preparing for the next holiday.
