This was interesting to read and the reader can relate to indulging. I thought that in dialogue you had to use quotation marks. ( Am I wrong?) Also new year should be capitalized. No offense meant. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks. Nope, the rules of the contest are no quotation marks. You're not wrong, though. In regular writing, one must use quotation marks. There is no offense taken, reviewers are here to catch errors.

I know that song. I sang it on those same occasions. The Holidays are brutal for a person who needs to lose weight. It forces him to make excuse to enjoy the foods that are hard to resist.

This is really good, and excellent write.
You also picked on a subject anyone can identify with
and wrote it with such easy crisp dialogue that didn't
need any other explanations or directions. I could smell
all the christmas-y tastes of gingerbread and cinammon.
