What would we do without "tomorrow" ((being sarcastic).
I think you made your point about someone procrastinating.
I like the way you wrote it with the questions
on lines by themselves.

Thanks for reading and the six stars. I have this conversation with myself every year but it doesn't do much good. LOL
Comment from Sandra Stoner-Mitchell
How many times I said that to myself and never kept the promise. Not until my knee gave out did I realise I had to do it. I've never looked back. Dieting is a problem with so many people, it's as hard to give up the things you enjoy as it is to give up smoking. I think this contest entry is excellent, and is so true. I'm sure all reviewers will relate to it. Good luck in the contest. xx Sandra x

Yeah, I hear you. I have a friend who weighs 320 lbs. He has been told he must lose 100 lbs soon. I wish him the best of luck because I know how he loves to eat and cook. Like you, I need to lose around 30 lbs because my ankles and back are bothering me. I simply must talk a bit harder to myself and do it. LOL Thanks for reading my story.

Wow! I love your novel approach of a dialogue only story. The conversation remind me of the metaphor of the angel and the devil on ones shoulders whispering encouragement or temptations into ones ears. Your story of a person trying and failing to stick to a New Year's resolution to lose weight resonates with many who suffer the same challenge:
Sure wait, no wait, it might be after the New Year celebration. Too much going on to diet now. That's it, I'll make losing weight my New Year's resolution
We heard that before! The conscience continues:
Yeah right, that's what you said last year and nothing came of it except you weigh more now than you did then.
The debate takes twists and stones before falling back into a less than hopeful habit:
I have to taste stuff before serving it to my friends and family, you know. What if I left something out and it tastes terrible?
We know where this is going, but enjoy hearing how one lies to oneself.
This is an imaginative entry in this contest. I wish you success in this and in any resolution in the New Year. ; )
Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for reading and commenting. I really do need to lose 20 or 30 lbs and I do have a habit of making excuses.

I think I have had this same dialog in my mind every year. Excellent use of words that most of us can relate to. So many goodies this time of year and they are hard to resist.

How clever, everyone knows that tomorrow never comes. I will do all things necessary tomorrow. What promise? I said tomorrow, this is today. Tomorrow was today on yesterday, but now it is today. Yesterday is dead and gone and cannot be revisited. Okay, okay I will do it tomorrow. I promise.

LOL. You sound just like me. I know I could lose some weight but it is hard to talk myself into it. I will though, I promise. Tomorrow.
Comment from Cindy Warren
Haha, that conersation sounds very fimiliar. I have it with myself every year. Last year I actually did manage to lose thirty pounds. I'm afraid this year I'm not doing so well. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks for reading and commenting. I too managed to lose 30 pounds in 2008. Then I guess I decided I liked to eat more than I liked being skinny. LOL

PBB,
Very nice job on this one -- and a scene that I'm sure too many of us can relate to! Ha! I think I have this talk with myself at least once a week or so. My only comment is to make sure that when you do ellipses that you only provide three dots (...) and no more. Thanks!

good job nice representation. so true for so many. Psychology studies have come to the conclusion why we get so amped up and quit after such short time on our goals not just new years but all of our goals.

I can relate to the dialogue you were having with yourself. I think maybe we all do this very thing at times. I have been almost totally disabled for 2 1/2 years and it is extremely hard for me to lose weight because of not being able to walk more than from chair to chair in my home. Best wishes for a good new year. Patricia

Thank you. I don't have any excuse for not losing weight unless one considers loving to eat.
Comment from cflorian8
This entry made me smile. Personally, these excuses remind me of the numerous instances I procrastinated on my school work:) "I'll push it back a few days, or its not due until next week." " I can chill." I eventually learned the procrastination and school grades do not mix. Good Job.
