Ah, yes - you sing the same song that I sing. What to believe? What is of God, what is of man? And why on earth do I repeat mistakes? It's a mystery to me, as well. Nice poem - Cheryl

This is an excellent and well spoken poetic analysis of faith and belief and to what purpose it brings. Each verse transitioned well to the next capturing the facets of all the inquiry in our minds and hearts. I like that you ended it with the positive hope for an understanding to come.

Thank you once again my friend. Faith in the religious arena has always been difficult for me but as I say in the final stanza, my mind is open to finding it. At my age I don't hold my breath. Thank you friend. tom

One of those questions with ever evading answers....
I surely trust that when you find the true answer about faith,
you'll share it.... I have my own opinion on the subject...
As far as I see, your piece is very thought provoking...
Impressive!..... Well done...
Oh, and Happy New Year to you and yours!!

The problem with faith is that it is alien to the intellect, it therefore defies analysis. The biblical explanation is "now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." A definition that show as countless men who have had dreams of substance throughout history that have, in fact, borne fruit. Confining it to religious belief or a range of beliefs is a little narrow, while it has a much broader definition. Whereas it's explanation could be said to be "faith=hope" Well done, although you were attacking rather than explaining faith in your extremely well written, articulate, smoothly scribed, iambic tetrametric, abab rhymed piece, good luck, blessings, Roy

Enjoyed the review Roy. I have read many 'intellectual' arguments in support of having faith but maybe you meant that 'faith' is without definable substance, especially, if your faith IS in "things not seen".
Joe Klein, a well-known writer on contemporary subjects i.e. politics,
religion, culture, war, etc. writes this in 2004. "Faith without doubt leads to moral arrogance, the eternal pratfall of the religiously convinced." Of course he is using 'faith' in the "narrow" confines you mention in this interesting review. I think in the religious context your "faith=hope" is spot on as it is in having faith that you will receive your matriculation diploma when you complete your course requirements, requirements you "hope" to complete. "although you were attacking rather than explaining faith.." I have reread this tome several times Roy, I even read it twice to my wife who is far smarter than I lol, and we can't find any "attack" on faith. There are questions, there is a mention of how conflicts in faith do bring out the worst in man and that I think is well settled truth that deserves mention because it goes to some of my concerns with faith, when used in the religious arena, not necessarily being a consistently positive element of man's construct. I also infer the zealot's absolutism when he/she in self righteous certainty, becomes "profane" and does lack credulity. Again, I think that is well settled also, at least, for most people. It is the zealot and his kissin' cousin the religious fanatic, who is prone to attack other faiths. This often happens within the same faith as we have witnessed all to tragically in the past few decades; Islam Sunni vs Shia, Sunni and Shia attacking the Syrian Alowites. Really enjoyed the review Roy, Thanks. tom

This is a well-written poem, bringing up a lot of great questions. They say history repeats itself and that sure is holding true. So no, I don't believe man will ever truly learn from their mistakes, that they'll continue to repeat until the end of time.

As usual your post is extremely well written with great rhyme and rhythm. As to a suggestion I would recommend reading CS Lewis who struggled with these questions.

A very well-written thought-provoking poem. As a believer I can say that without faith I would not be able to cope. The Kingdom of God is not far away that we cannot find it. The Kingdom of God is within us. He gives us our intelligence to know right from wrong.

Well I don't even know God is a 'He' or a 'She' or if God exists at all. I need more than what is available I guess. And I
know right from wrong and did not need God to know it or if I did I didn't notice His presence. That is my dilemma Sandra. I am so glad it is not a dilemma for you. Thanks a million for the review. tom
