This is one of my fears, my wife and I have been married for 41 years. I've always wondered what would happen if she left first. I know she would be going to a better place, where she would never hurt anymore. The past haunts her. I feel the pain in each word especially this time of year when we live in our memories. You're in my prayers, my friend.

A very well-written heartfelt and sad Sonnet. We feel lost when a life partner suddenly is not with us anymore. We get depressed and sad, we try to find new hobbies and interests but their place stays empty.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I sometimes can relate when I sit in the dark and think of my father passing. You think of all the things that happened in the room, all the memories stored within, if the walls could talk. Thanks for sharing.

Today, my ex-brother-in-law was buried and I have been a little down all day. I couldn't attend the service as it would have upset too many people and yet he and I have been friends for over 50 years and I will miss him.
