The true benefit of today's political scene is the conflict. It's been said that a popular Netflix program (House of Cards) declared how difficult it was topping the plot twists that occur almost daily in our current White House.
I choose to make my politics small. I am more worried about the streets around me than I am about state and federal politics. But like most wrecks on the side of the road, it is difficult to ignore.
I don't think you are looking for writing feedback. But you might get a lot of feedback of the unpopular kind.

Thanks, Dan--and I fully expect to get some disagreement, but I feel strongly that the country's headed in the exact wrong direction, wrongly under Donopolis The Only, and Roy Moore represents wrongly--so of course, Don-Toddler endorsed him
