Hi Bill. I read this some time ago but think I read with a prejudiced eye ... I apologize for that. It got Honorable Mention so I congratulate you on that achievement. I worked in the Dallas Children's Medical Center when I was in my twenties. It's next to Parkland Hospital, the one where JFK (look at those initials lol, signs everywhere) died. Anyway, it was so difficult to know that most of the kids in the wards were going to die. Sooner or later, life would simply leave them. The stretchers being pulled out of those rooms filled with those little bodies leave an indelible imprint on one's heart. This is an excellent piece of writing and one of the best things about how you write Bill, is that while a percentage of the work is for your "show" (talent, imagination, significance), a stronger percentage seems to me to be from your heart. Your author notes sometimes manipulate a certain result, but you can't cover up that you leave a piece of your heart on the page from the write as well. Congratulations again on placing. Well deserved!

This is just beautiful and so very touching my friend what you have penned. It is so true what you have stated. We do not have any idea what those precious little ones go through before they go to be with Jesus. Great wording and art work you chose! Best wishes in the contest! Blessings, Teri

Wonderful heart-ranching story. The ending is an uplifting verse. Your service always seems to come through in your writing...sometimes, like here between the lines. Merry Christmas

Hi this is a great write. There is so much in it. Any way you take it. The story drifts, tells, and pleases the heart .
I love it. A great combination of love, pathos and depth and morality.
Thank you.

Such a beautifully crafted piece you have delivered. Powerful and usually unspoken of this time of the year. Thank you sharing this story with fanstory.
God bless!

Bittersweet poem sure brought tears to my eyes. Your authors notes are so true. Only one typo-
Momma cried, and (D)addy looked so sad.

This is a poem I wrote at about the same moment a little four year old girls from my church was taking her last breath and being carried into the arms of Jesus, She died of leukemia. The poem was read at her funeral.

Helping Us Grow

Some of us,
Have eighty years or more,
While others You take,
Before they are four.
I don't understand,
How all this can be,
To me it seems,
Like such an irony.
But I know You,
Have all in Your hand,
And all that is happening,
You have carefully planned.
So by faith,
I'll trust You to show,
How in these things,
You are helping us grow.

    Greetings Patricia,
Thank you for reading my work, 'it is an honor'! Your poem, 'Helping Us Grow', is AWESOME! Are you listening? "God's gonna get you one day, to write poems for his Little Angles"! Oh, don't you worry, 'He has plenty of ink for your quill'! Best wishes for a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and fulfillment from your writing.

Bill, I love children and often write about the things they do and how I love being around them.

Jungle Fighter--
Could it be there is a connection between Jimbo's leukemia and all it accomplishes for "God?" Meaning literal medicine? I am the wrong person to read this, but then that makes me the wrong person to read most of these poems which means I am in a jungle hamlet and everyone is "bad."

Yeah, this is very moving but there is an entire Defense Department structure with Westmoreland and Nixon and the whole bit behind it. Why aren't you out there as a "jungle fighter" fighting leukemia with your words and your knowledge? It is not the Viet Kong. It is defeatable. It does not need God to solve it. Why do you leave it all to "God."

Post a poem where it is your opponent, not the door to death that opens up this whole religious thank you bit.

Thanks
Wabigoon/Jeff

    Hello Jeff,
My friends call me Bill, 'not Jungle Fighter'! Hey! If you were the wrong person to read this, 'why did you'? You could of, 'skipped, hopped, and jumped' right on by! I am not a Vietnam Veteran and Jungle Fighter. I was a 'Joint Services Commando' in Iraq. My authors name 'Jungle Fighter', is in honor of my older cousin, a Navy Seal who fought and died in Vietnam. In reference to your remark, "Why aren't you out there as a jungle fighter, fighting leukemia with your words, and knowledge?"

Presently, I am associated with the National American Legion, and St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. As a 'non-profit, and charitable organization', we beat the bushes for $$$, to try and help make our Little Angels of God's life more comfortable, as they walk along the pathway to Heaven.

I shall be speaking at St. Jude's this Christmas, and presenting a considerable amount of $$$ to the Administrator to buy gifts for our Little Angels, 'before they face their final earthly moment'. Are you listening, Wabigoon? Please, put my name on your calendar, to remind you to 'skip, hop, and jump' right on by when you come to my writing. I'll not miss you! Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and best wishes.
    Respectfully,
    Bill (JF)

    Bill--
Ah, the review is not that bad. We have crossed paths before and as I recall you really liked what I wrote last time...so, you never know. I have to pick a few possible "fights" here because this is, for me, as perhaps you can imagine, often enemy territory. I passed your post a bunch of times and last night said, aw, heck, let's try it.

Bill, I do not want to "hip, skip and jump" over work because I might possible disagree with it or you might disagree with my review. I doubt that is what they taught you in Iraq and it would certain not be in Navy Seal training. So, you can probably expect to see me again. You have a mute function if you can't take listening to the boondocks.

Admire your work for St. Jude's.

    Best
    Wabigoon/Jeff

Awe Bill, this is just too sweet, and it almost broke my heart. What a brave little fellow, who could recognise and acknowledge all his friends. A very bitter sweet poem. I loved it. Love. Ulla:)))

    Awe Ulla,
Your 'just too sweet', yourself. 'Love, you too! Yet I'm so sad, because you said, "you would write me too," and haven't! Guess I'll find me someone else to love, 'boohoo'! Thanks for the review. Sorry, I almost broke your heart, 'didn't mean too'!
    Love, Bill

Bravo! Two things needed to post a positive image: Strong faith and strong will (the red is kind of strong too but we'll overlook that). Even still, it's hard not to be saddened by the raw truth of it all. Very well done, I'm impressed by the strength in words.

    Hello my friend,
Thank you for the review, kind words, and taking time to read my work. It is 'an honor'! Thanks for alerting me on the red being kind of strong. I've weakened it down some. Your thoughts matter to me. Best wishes for a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.
