This is a romantic ghazal I liked.
I enjoyed the couplets so balanced, meaningfully and thematically worded.
The romantic appreciation is appreciable.

This ghazal, Your Arms, is set up correctly, repeating 'your arms' in the second line of each couplet. The theme of separation and lingering feelings comes through for me.

"When we spooned together, you in back, me in front"
Spooning?

Ha, Bill, I thought everyone knew what spooning was. I added this definition to my author's notes:

Spooning=when a couple lie down front to back, fitting together like spoons.

Thank you for your generous review of my poem about separation.

Well, I actually know what spooning is, but never heard of the actual 'like spoons' analogy. It has always meant, to me, to simply be making out. I questioned the term spooning with your description, as it seemed for like a 'backdoor' scenario, if ya know what I mean.

    Ha! Clever. That's another interpretation.

Hello Sis Cat I found your ghazal format a bit different from what I have seen, but it has a way to draw a reader in with its first couplet with an end rhyme (radif) on both lines that is repeated without change on the second line of the following couplets.
sounds tricky you have indeed talent
Thank you for sharing

Oh, thank you, Gert, for your review. I perfected the form to the extent of my knowledge in my next ghazal on chocolate. Now I plan to check out a book on English ghazals to make sure I am writing them properly. Thank you for your review.

The theme is introduced in the first part and I had to compare the notes to the piece to follow what you are doing. The end rhymes are as supposed to be. I see the name in the last and done in an interesting way. No I don't think I am brave enough to try

Go ahead, Barb, try. It took me two ghazals to finally nail the form on my third. Now I want to check out a book of ghazals in English to make sure I am writing them properly. Thank you for your review.

Aw. Lovely and passionate Ghazal poem certainly meets the criteria described in the much appreciated author's notes. Hmm. Not sure how mentally healthy it is (mantra reinforcement of unrequited love), LOL - but, yeah, if someone's suffering, it makes sense. I don't see anything to correct. Well done!

You've used an interesting and uncommon form here. I could see the form going wrong horribly; you, however, nailed it here.

A deep romance gone wrong poem that is melancholy from the start but still rejoices a little in what was. Nostalgia, heartache and loss all shine off the screen. A great piece.

Thank you, Lucian, for your kind review of this ancient form of Arabic poetry which only became common in 1996 with the publication of the world's first anthology of English ghazals. I just picked up the book tonight.

Thank you for noting the bittersweet quality of my nostalgic, melancholy poem.

Love this intimate poem described through the memories of a missing loved one's arms. I like that it is the arms and not other body parts because the arms is what we use to embrace and holds the strength of our expression of our loving hugs. Well done!

Yes, lyenochka, not only do arms hold us, but they hold so much memory and emotions. Thank you for your generous review.

Hi, Andre;
Such longing and sorrow in these words. To think someone would get your name tattooed and then not be with you forever. Arms are one of the 'things' that attract me to a person. So, I could relate to this piece very well. Thank you for sharing,

~patty~

Yes, Patty, I love that detail of an ex removing the tattoos of a lover's name. It is sad but true. I'm glad you could relate to my poem. Thank you for your review.

Thank you, Dolly, for your kind, generous review. Until the 1996 publication for the world's first anthology of English ghazals, many people had not heard of this ancient form of Arabic poetry, and many Americans who knew about it wrote them poorly.

Yes, we all need a hug in life.
