I think that you did a good job of relating the snow to the experience of life. It comes across quite nicely in this well written poem.
Many thanks for sharing this lovely piece with us.

Thank you for the excellent review and all these comments supporting the poem. I am glad you enjoyed it and found the metaphors of transformation of life. We can't stay here forever, and on earth, the snow is what takes on a journey to other planes, other states of mind. estory

Hello again, estory: Yes, I could feel the dance and hear the music as you described the many marvelous things about snow. I particularly loved the way you described the dance to the music heard in the silence of the night:

Where the cold stops the trees from growing
And stops the birds from flying,
The snow dances to music
It hears in the silence

There are many words like a beautiful ballet. They perform on a magnificent stage in my mind as I read this splendid poem:

Into memories of the woods
And lonely footsteps through the woods
That end in standing still
Somewhere
Under the stars

The snow seems to dance in circles,
From white into color and back into white again,
Listening and singing and dancing and dreaming
Of starlight and moonlight,
The white bark of birch trees
And the white petals of flowers
Waking up in the spring time,
White pieces of paper
Becoming poetry and music,
The music of a ballet
Whose footsteps trail off
Into wandering loneliness
And a stillness of dreams.

This poem left me speechless and it took my breath away for a moment. My friend, your poetry is beautiful! This is another one deserving six stars. You must start to post your poetry on Sunday mornings. It's then, of course, that we all have our six stars to give away. FABULOUS!

Thank you so much for this excellent review and for all the amazing comments supporting this poem. I am so glad you enjoyed it and found it so breathtaking. you picked out some of my favorite spots too. I wanted to craft a poem of transformation of the landscape, a transcendental experience of life, and I thought snow would be the perfect metaphor. I am so glad it worked for you. thanks again for all the continued support of my poetry. i'll try to remember about Sunday, but I usually go to church on Sunday and take a day off from work. estory

Such beautiful and vivid scenes you have painted with your words here.

The snow lays in drifts,
Silently sleeping,
Barely moving or whispering
In the depths of its dreaming

Loved this.

Into the light again,
Into skies wide with white clouds
And nights bright with starlight
Where the stars point to the north,
An arctic circle of light,
The cold alchemy of white.

and this.

No errors noted. It's just beautiful.

Hi Estory, great description and imagery in this free verse poem. I think the stretching of the snow did transcend into other areas as well. Great job!

This speaks about snow, how it affects the poet, how snow falls look like, how snow brings in and opens dreams and takes the poet to the memories of joy and music, how it acts to work; I like. DR ALCREATOR

This work has reached the exceptional level

This is utterly beautiful. I wish I had written it.The experience of snow is not mine to claim, so I resign myself to reading and appreciating these evocative lines without the benefit of authorship. The language used is lovely. I find myself drawn to reading it over and over just to meet those phrases again and speak them out loud. I love free verse. I haven't written any for a long time now, but it used to be a favorite medium for my Muse years ago. This is so lovely, I have decided to "bookcase " it. Well done cheers Cass

An unusual and imaginative write about snow and its close connection with life. I liked it and the gentle snow fall makes me think that life has slowed down to take stock and renew the earth. Your words are food for thought, love Dolly x
