I'd be even more scared of the lovely twenty seven year old. His friend probably had to pay her. Being at home with a cat really isn't so bad.

I agree. Thanks for the comments.

I like this very much, the rhyming is good and flows well and the humour is excellent. The picture goes perfectly with the poem and I like the title. Very true to life, friends are always trying to fix up a single friend and it does sometimes seem that anyone will do.

I am going to err on the side of the writer here but you might want to reconsider listing this as poetry as the contest rules clearly state: "Write a story using only dialogue." As poetry, this is fresh and witty with solid rhyme and meter throughout. All the best in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

Thanks for your comments. Am I allowed to change contest categories?
-
You can't change the contest rules but you can ask Tom to move your post from Poetry to Short Story and if you fix the formatting once there you will be good to go. Hope that helps.

Thanks.

His friend should lay off the matchmaking for this fellow. I liked the story behind it but it was a bit out there in content and presentation.

Frank's for reading

I really enjoyed this one-way conversation. The Speaker seems to have some legitimate arguments for refusing another blind date set up by his friend. Wonderful descriptions of the previous ones. Amusing ending where it appears he will quickly change his mind. Your rhymes blended in naturally.

Jenin, this was a great dialogue only write. I enjoyed it at this early hours and it brought smiles to my face. I had a blind date once and it turned out that I do not remember anything that happened after the drink that he had drugged. The rest of the story is too long, but there are no more blind dates for me. Patricia

I was raped and became pregnant. My family want me to abort the child which I could not do.
Adoption
I went through the labor,
But never held him in my arms,
As I gave him for adoption,
So others saw his childhood charms.
But it has always been my prayer,
That all these years he did know,
It was because I loved him,
That I had to let him go.
He has a special mother,
To care for him I?m sure,
And the love she has for him,
Is one that will endure.
Though I never held him,
Or saw his boyish smile,
I have always loved him,
And hope to see him in a while.
In a while in Heaven,
Just through the pearly gates,
When we are together,
Where our loving Savior waits.
© Patricia Lawrence
This is my own true testimony
The rest of this story I found him when he was 35 and have a good relationship with him today. He thanked me for not aborting him.

I am so happy that you found him. God bless.x

Good morning, Jen: I am still laughing at your wonderfully funny post and what an unusual way to post a Dialogue Only writing. You are so right though because it is all dialogue so you are unique with this entry. This is a very creative approach and I really appreciated it. I'm loving it!

So glad you enjoyed it. Do you stay up all night?
-
Yes, I do. I work the 11 pm through 7 am shiftt. It is very quiet here though so I read and write all night long for forty night a week. It is a real blessing.
-
What work do you do?
-
I am a Security Supervisor in the DHS Administration building New York, NY. There are not many staff in the building during the overnight except for a few Officers, some NYPD and DHS staff. This is why it's so peaceful.

I loved this, especially the ending! Who could refuse such a date eh? This is a fun write and the dating game when you're older is a bit hit and miss! Love Dolly x
