Not really depression. Just a little disgusted with Congress and their antics with their tax fiasco. Made me think of those two inevitables, death and taxes. Thanks for reading and for your review.

I like this creative take on the ultimate question - in light of the fact that we all die, is there any meaning to be found? Your third stanza sums up the frustration of it all wonderfully. The line "I woke up on the wrong side of dead" is fantastic, and the "seat at the feast" ending is just vague enough (are you the diner or the dined on?) to leave the reader with questions at the end.

I frequently feel like I've woken up on the wrong side of dead. We only have that and taxes as two things we can't escape. I don't think we even escape the taxes after we die. It's just our families that pay them. Thank you for the feedback.

A very well-written poem. We have to pay for our existence on earth until we die. It is the law of the government that we will pay taxes for services we are supposed to get but are really spent otherwise.
