This is cute, Pome Lover. It was easy to see two friends giggling over silliness here. But that's the way young girls are. Life is just silly. Fictional stories. Reactions. Dreams. It's fun to make up stories just to see what the other thinks. There's nothing wrong with silliness. It sure beats stress.
Nicely penned!

    thank you so much!
I am usually writing for kids so there is always silliness - which, as you say, beats the heck out of stress.
And thanks for the 6! A lovely surprise. I really appreciate it.

Hi there,

I have a friend just like this who blatantly lures you in to fake conversations about imaginary things. He thinks he's hilarious. We think he's a dick...

Well written and fun little piece.

this was just two young teens being silly. In an adult it would be stupid.

A very well-written short story. Girls can be very gossippy and sometimes they tease each other with made up stories just to see the other's reaction. The best friends are those who can be weird with each other and still be friends.

right. maybe this piece was over the top - I've had some really varied reactions. It was meant to be silliness between two teens.
In adults, it wouldn't be funny.

This story has great flow. You're still in the groove.
It holds your interest. If this is for a contest, you'd win.

Does she um, know who the father is? Would that be the first question a girl would ask another girl?
Can you imagine two boys having a similar conversation. Looks like I'm back on your list again.

    probably not - first question.
just a bit of silliness, but I did win the story without an "A" contest!

LOL this is an absolutely lovely script piece and one that is truly believable and fun to read "Brother...sheesh". Love that part and the piece it was fun to read

thanks, Barb. Appreciate it. One time I wrote a piece like this and called it a script, and people said it wasn't, so I think I categorized it as a story. Quien sabe.

it is a dialog only script

Katharine,

A simple moment-in-time story with no plot, just fun and engaging ribbing. I haven't seen you posting as much lately -- hope you are well.

One note -- a matter of opinion, only -- but the font is SO large, it detracts a bit from the reading.

Thanks!

thanks, Robyn. Actually just over pneumonia, but am doing fine. Been concentrating on contests lately.
Have been cooking all day and now collapsed at my desk for a minute before cleaning up all the mess.
Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving! Keep forgetting about the font. sorry.

You achieved a feeling of immediacy and naturalness by not naming the (generic) gibbering girls or slowing the dialogue with speech marks, so it rang true.

I liked the conflicted attitude of one of them to her boyfriend: "Are you crazy! I don't want to have a baby with him!" She's just said babies are adorable but this left me wondering: is he there just for form's sake, because it wouldn't do for her credibility with other girls to say she had no boyfriend?

It was funny that both Alice's pregnancy and the Egypt thing were invented, jokes.

This was good and left me wanting more.

thank you for wanting to read more.
    encouraging remark.
as to why she said that about her boyfriend, maybe her interest was waning.

Oh my! You kept me guessing about where this was going. Glad it was all just for fun and that there wasn't anyone hurt by gossip. It's often true that friends do look over their buddies' siblings. Good chuckles.

I can imagine two girls talking in the manner that you have described. I perhaps hoped for a little more in the tale, but cannot argue with the way you have written it.
